6 Reasons Why Nobody Should Be The Next President of the NAACP

May 12th, 2008

…and the organization should be retired and put in a museum

My Blogging comrade Shawn has a good post up advocation for why he thinks his pastor should be the NAACP president, “6 reasons why Dr. Frederick D. Haynes should be the next president of the NAACP”

This post is not a swipe at Dr. Haynes nor Shawn’s advocacy of him; but is to point out why I think the NAACP doesn’t need a president, and rather should retire itself:

1. We stopped being Colored at least a half century ago
2. The NAACP’s insistence on old outdated methods and old outdated thinking rivals there insistence on that old outdated name.
3. It’s a corrupt institution of old men that basically exist as an apparatus for the good Negro faction of our community to gain personal status through climbing its ranks
4. It’s too entrenched in being the establishment to fight the establishment
5. Its leaders rather be on t.v. to advocate for foolish crap and foolish people; rather than standing up for maligned folks even if no cameras are around and even if no dues are paid (for instance how they wouldn’t help the Jena 6 until a town of less than a thousand Blacks opened up a branch)
6. They’re not Afrocentric and self-determination minded; they’ve always been funded by white people, and even have at least one white chapter head that I know of.

I could go on…

No, really I could!

You fought the good fight NAACP…a LONG LONG LONG LONG time ago, in what seems like a galaxy far away. Time to hang it up.

Your thoughts?
