Taser Awareness - Blogging Against Extra-Judicial Electrocution

July 30th, 2008

We have followed some incidents of tazing here at BlackPerspective.net for awhile now.

Now with the Afrosphere Action Coalition and other blog comrades, we’re making a concerted push to make sure the public is aware of the abusive, liberal and unnecessary use of tazering that is causing damage and death to people who are not even engaged in violence – from pregnant women, to suicidal bridge jumpers, to handcuffed nearly unconscious victims, to wheelchair bound victims.

Extrajudicial Electracution should not be the first resort everytime somebody doesn’t jump as fast as a cop would like; it should only be the last resort short of needing to use a gun.

We have had a number of recent incidents that have pushed this issue to the forefront:

Tazering an unarmed sucidial man off a bridge

Man tazed to death after shoptlifting a grocery story gift card, because he was speaking too “loudly”.

Louisisna man tasered to death while in handcuffs; 9 times

Enoght Is Enough

A Polish man going to Canada to live with his mother was tasered to death just because he didn’t speak English and was dazed and frustrated after spending almost an entire day in airport customs with no direction on where to go so he could be picked up by his mother. Instead of helping him, police killed him:

I don’t think most people have a clue about how dangerous these things are or that many officcers are only given the training
    that Taser International provides.

I agree that unnecessary tasering should be looked at very closely especially with the latest news stories breaking.

My husband is in law enforcement. They were issued tasers last year and before any of the officers got there “toy pistola” they had to be tazed themselves. I guess this was the departments way of making sure they understood the severity of receiving this mini-electrocution.

It was designed to be a deterrent to deadly force. But it seems that the taser is becoming a more deadly and inhumane weapon than the guns these guys have been carrying for years.

Not sure what, if anything can be done about it.

Wonder how many Taser incidents haven’t been reported - just shoved under the rug. Years ago we respected our leaders, our teachers, our police, our corporations. No more.
Here’s a line from one of my favorite e.e.cummings’ poems:
“King Christ this world is all aleak and life preservers there are none”.

Had I known about this I would have participated. Tasers need to go, they turn cops into judge, jury and executioner.

You can still post on it anyway. Let me know if you do, and we’ll add you to the round up list. I’ll be posting the round up in the next day or two.

I don’t agree that tasers need to go, because they still have guns, and guns are more leathal. The liberal use policy of tasers needs to go, and they should be a last resort short of deadly force weapon, instead of a first resort just because they want to use them.
