Act Against Police Taser Abuse

April 24th, 2009

AAPP, who led the Afrospher Action Coalitions campaign last year on taser abuse awarness has called for a “A day of blogging for Justice - Standing up against the pre-trial electrocution”

My post is to ask my readers to take action.

Continued concerted action brings about change. I want to ask you to write to the media expressing your desire to have this issue covered. Here is a contact list for major media outlets.

You can write one short letter (a paragraph or two) and send it to everyone. Please also contact your local tv news, and newspaper; you actually have the most power on that level. Yet, if local medias cover the issue, the more it will bubble up nationally.

*Note: I am not against the use of tasers as they are an alternative short of deadly force that is better than the use of the gun. I am against the regular abuse of tasers.

Here are post from other bloggers:

Eddie Griffin - The Gravest Injustice

Zhana - No to Pre-Trial Electrocutions

Villager provides us with the Taser Use of Force Continum that should be followed.

AAPP - Taser torture in America- A call for Congressional Hearings

I also just found this organization called STAT: Stop Taser Abuse Today.

Excellent idea about reaching out to local media. We are also reaching out via Twitter using a special hashmark tag #tasertorture

I had not heard of STAT before your post. I’m going to check them out next.

I invite your blog readers to see what I had to say about taser torture in America and sign online petition seeking congressional hearings.

Thank you for suggesting we alert the media, and for posting this list of media contacts. Very practical information.

Thanks also for posting a link to my blog.

Much obliged for the info. Seems to me that the taser has taken the place of the rope and the tree.

I invite you and your readers to read my take on this issue starting with the origin of the taser.

Indeed a good idea to use local media as a platform to attract the attention of others towards the injustice face by us. We shouldn’t bear the abusive behavior of police just because of their power to torture us in future, now time has changed.
