I’m starting a series called “AIDS In Africa”, and this post is the first of that series.
“The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), this month cleared the three-in-one Aids pill for children less than 12 years of age, for use in a global US Aids relief program that includes Kenya.
The generic pill made by India’s Cipla Ltd combines the generic HIV-fighting drugs lamivudine, stavudine and nevirapine.
Kenya is one of the beneficiaries of the US program that focuses on 15 countries, mostly in Africa. Under the program, the country is this year receiving funding to the tune of US$368.1 million to support comprehensive HIV/Aids prevention, treatment and care program”
…According to this AllAfrica.com article.
George W. Bush called for a 5 year 30 billion dollar global AIDS package, back in May of this year. AIDs fighting from both a foreign aid and a domestic social emphasis standpoint is on the rise in most of Africa and most of the world.
