This is a monthly series at BlackPerspective.net. Beauty in our country and in world culture is most often measured through the lens of white men; here we’ll take a Black perspective on beauty. Beauty comes in many forms, and we will highlight some various different types of beauties.
Sara Stokes was our last Beauty of the Month
With her hit song Empire State Of Mind with Jay-z, and her new album The Element of Freedom out, Alicia Keys is BlackPerspective.net’s Beauty of the month for December.


New York-born Alicia Keys began taking piano lessons at age seven at her mother’s insistence. She proved to be such a prodigy that she was later accepted into he prestigious Professional Performance Arts School of Manhattan, where she majored in choir. Not only her musical talent but also her grades proved to be so exceptional that she was allowed to graduate, as valedictorian, at age 16. In 1998, she signed with Arista Records, and wrote, produced and recorded her own albums.



Keys, who’s real last name is Cook, burst on to the scene in 1999 with her debut album Songs in A Minor, selling 6.2 million copies in the United States and twelve million copies worldwide. It earned Keys five Grammy Awards in 2002, including Best R&B Album. The album was ranked number two on Rolling Stone’s Top 10 of 2001 and was inducted on Q magazine’s 100 Greatest Albums Ever. - Wikipedia

Ms. keys has done exceptional work in public service as a spoken women and fundraiser most notably in the area of AIDs and in Africa. She did a live youtube concert for World AIDS DAY on December 1, 2009.
