Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
September 25th, 2008
No matter how you slice it, this bailout is nothing but a 700 billion dollar welfare package.
But instead of going for aid to dependent children in the projects, or single mothers in trail parks; it’s going to self-entitled CEO’s in penthouses and MBAs who instead of doublewide’s, have extend boathouse yachts for mere leisure use.
Yet, where is the right’s usual sermon? Where is the outcry about social degradation and morale decay? There is some minimum talk of “greedy CEOs”; yet then they demand that the welfare bill be passed with no caps on executive salaries and bonuses. These demands coming from the same people who perpetually look down on struggling people who we propose giving some help to and say that they should pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, whether they have any boots or not; much less straps.
But when it comes to the rich who squandered corporate wealth by their own doing, gambling on risky loans and investments; hoping to score even bigger on the truck loads of money they already had; with bad and deceitful behavior; they are given a pass by the righteous-right.

Little talk of the lack of moral fiber of Wall Street welfare kings and queens like they’ve spent decades deriding the poor Black (though the majority of welfare recipients are white) welfare queens. And don’t get me wrong; I don’t for one second excuse those who use government aid as way of life instead of a stepping stone or a supplement to what they can do for themselves; as some abusers do. But why is there no equivalent venomous disdain being spewed about the irresponsibility of the bankers, fund managers, corporate robber barrens? Why are their morals not lambasted even though this crisis that they’ve caused is due to their lying, cheating, stealing, and deceptive, irresponsible, risky behavior?
Just as with Sarah Palin’s daughter, all of a sudden teenage pregnancy is now no longer an example of social degradation; but now because it’s one of theirs; teenage pregnancy is to be cheered and applauded.
If you’re both white and you’re Right; there is no moral compass that the self-righteous right will hold you up to.
When you hear the words “subsidy” and “bailout”; make no mistake that those words are nothing but a euphemism for “welfare”.
What is normally termed welfare are programs such as Aid To Dependent Children and food voucher programs. These programs are “subsidies” to those who cannot afford housing, food and other living. They are financial “bailouts” to poor individuals.
Yet, as Exxon Mobile, while earning record billion dollar record profits continues to receive government subsidies, John McCain proposes more tax “subsidies” a.k.a corporate welfare.
Now the rich insurance, banking and financial industries are getting a 700 billion dollar bailout that should be called what it is: a Wall Street Welfare plan; and the equivalent accompanying acrimony and derision that is aimed at individuals for being poor should go along with it.
When you give government money to anyone for work that wasn’t done, or was otherwise not earned; or award for injury or restitution, that is welfare. That’s what Exxorn and Wall Street are receiving; completely unearned money.

I just read they have come to an agreement I haven’t heard about it yet. I admit it is all over my head and I’m hoping 700 million wasn’t what they really needed to do. I heard it really wasn’t.
Honestly you can’t just blame McCain for this this mess runs very deep into both political parties, or shall I say the one party we really have and their seperate factions. Bush dropped the ball on this a year or more ago and this crisis is convenient, it makes people fearful, and that is where Republicans like people fearful. But looking over all the information i have the last few days it seems to me that everyone dropped the ball and it started most pointedly with Reagan continued with Clinton and as it worsened on Bush’s watch. The whole government was already in such a mess all anyone on capital hill could do was look out for themselves politically. I am frankly quite sick of this government, all parts of it and all parties.
Oh, I love the new look.
Great new layout! I love the black on white print; it’s easier to read. The brown header really stands out too, as does the picture of you in the orange shirt. Great job!
I agree with you about this obscene “bailout”, which is more like a tsunami headed directly at our pocketbooks, caused by an earthquake of greed and fraud by rich bankers and lobbyists.
It’s amazing that when Obama proposes 60 Billion a years for universal health care, people think that’s a lot of money. And now they want to spend twenty times that much in one MONTH - ONE F’ING MONTH - to bail out Wall Street.
These M-Fers can go screw themselves as far as I’m concerned. These pirates might be able to highjack the federal government, take it into a hidden cove and steal all of the gold and silver from its stores, but they’ll NEVER get me to believe in it.
This is like someone in Guchi shoes and a Sacks Fifth Avenue suit running past me on the street and saying, “Give me your wallet or something terribly bad will happen to me!”
Or driving by in a Lexus 500 and stopping at the curb to say to me, “Quick, I need$ 2,000 from you and everyone you know!”
Well, I’ve never given out money like that before, and I see no compelling reason to start now. People who demand money in hurry and give irrational excuses are often drug addicts and/or con men. You might get my money by putting a gun to my head, but not with the lame-ass pleas that the Bush Administration is offering us in its last four months in office.
One thing is sure. Bush is going to take two trillion dollars from us, and then he is going to disappear in four months. That doesn’t increase my faith in him, and I didn’t have any faith in him to begin with.
Great Cooper, glad you like.

Exactly, this is a big con; the same as weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Look at it, Bush is running the exact same game.
He’s claiming that the sky is falling and demanding that we have to write him an enormous blank check with no over site; and if we do, then everything will be alright. Just trust him.
