Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
April 8th, 2008
As the olympic torch is confronted in London and Paris to protest Chian’s policy on Tibet; why is China’s support for the genocide regime in Sudan not a part of the protest, or certainly not mentioned hardly at all by the media.
Let me be clear: the issue is not to have a pissing contest over who’s tragedy is worst or to push Tibet to the side, but that all such tragedy’s should receive attention; and that outrage should not just be limited to the “cause celeb” of the moment.

The Olympic motto for 2008 is “One World One Dream”; but apparently few think this should extended to Darfur.
As stated on the Olympic Dream for Darfur page: “China holds unrivaled influence with the genocidal regime in Sudan. As Beijing prepares to host the 2008 Olympics”. China, as Darfurs major buyer of oil, and supplier of weapons to the central African country has the greatest amount of influence over Khartoum of any country; and could leverage it’s influence for the people of Darfur.
The rest of the world can use the Olympics, which is very important to China in building it’s image and prestige’, to leverage China to take a stronger stance on Darfur. Steven Spielberg has already made the decision to boycott the Olympics over Darfur.

I signed every single one of those petitions and pre-made letters. I feel great! And it’s not over yet…can’t wait to keep giving them my support!
I sent the emails. I might make some phone calls too. Thanks for all the info, bro.
Thanks Deidra for taking action; that’s what we need.
Kevin,
Phone calls are even better than emails, they really hear those even more than accumulated messages in their inbox.
Or even faxes and postal letters over emails. Those hard copies make the message more visable to them. Emails certainly help and are much, much better than nothing; but its like using cash versus a credit card. When you plump down that money on the counter, you feel your self spending more than when swiping a card.
Look at the response I got from the NAACP from making a phone call: www.blackperspective.net/index.php/the-naacp-responds-to-blackperespectivenet-on-dunbar-village/
