Barbara Walters Got It On With Black Senator Edward Brooke

May 2nd, 2008

From the TMI files comes this lurid tale of a reporter truely covering her subject.

Oh great, just what Obama needs right now, white folks thinking about a prominent Black politician taking their salt of the earth.

Thanks Barb

Walters Had Past Affair with Black Senator
    Date: Thursday, May 01, 2008
    By: Frazier Moore, AP Television

NEW YORK - (AP) After three decades of keeping mum, Barbara Walters is disclosing a past affair with married U.S. Senator Edward Brooke, whom she remembers as “exciting” and “brilliant.”

Appearing on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” scheduled to air Tuesday, Walters shares details of her relationship with Brooke that lasted several years in the 1970s, according to a transcript of the show provided to The Associated Press.

A moderate Republican from Massachusetts who took office in 1967, Brooke was the first African-American to be popularly elected to the Senate. Both he and Walters knew that public knowledge of their affair could have ruined his career as well as hers, Walters says.

And she felt the gumption to tell this now, cause of what?

Ms. White Bread had sex with a black dude. Ain’t that some ish…

She felt the need to tell because she is about to expire. Not the nicest thing to say but most people confess when they are close to retirement. What can anyone do to her now?

The Senator has to be upset that this comes to light now in his golden years. I find the whole kiss and tell thing disgusting. I wonder if she knew he was black when she broke him off. This is a nice break from the serious news, I bet you get a lot of comments

Urban Thought, she probably saw her self as teh beauty seering the savage beast. Then she could go back to the Hampton and tell all her society friends how she had some elephant-cock nigger loving.

I think you’re right about her impending expiration.

JD, at least he’s divorced from that wife; but it can’t be too comfortable for everyone to know his business.

Though when he’s in the club house at the golf course in the mornings with the rest of the retirees; he can turn to the view and say “I had some of that”. He gets lockerroom talk points with the fellas - lol.

And I’m sure I will get more commenting than usual. This is the type of gossip that now makes my blog quality according to a certain someone, as opposed to posting commentary on things that matter.

Ah dear Babs, she is either feeling a little insignificant, or she feels so significant that she deems it necessary to “give her permission” via her interview to vote for an African American.

Like “hey I, Babs, f—ed interracially( years ago, so you can vote interracially and it’s no big deal.

    I think it’s the former.

it’s simple, really. in a country where half of its citizens don’t read at their leisure, ms. walters knew that when she wrote this book, she had to put something in it that would compel people to make that point of purchase. this was a fiscal choice. everybody knows that nothing sells like sex — especially if it’s interracial.

congressman “ol’ strom” thurman was no surprise. he was par for the course. so what could possibly be more frightening to middle america than white women with black men? white men marrying and happily settling down with black women.

also, by putting this in print, she’s getting the last word on this situation — because years from now, her written account will be all anyone has to know of it. she’s being a journalist. she’s setting the record straight.

I agree that sex sells and Walters used it to sel her book. But as for “setting the record straight” well I don’t think that had/has anything to do with it. It was, at least in my opinion, greed and a total disregard for this man’s family! This is a little much! Even with the Thurman so called revelation, it wasn’t released until he was dead! I wrote about this, too at SjP…wrote ABC…Oprah…the View…and a whole host of other folks! SjP

Barbara Walters is a washed up old fool, and I never understood what the fascination with her was all about. I am
continually puzzled as to how a mediocre intellect at best could have broken through so many
gender barriers when smarter, stronger, braver, more eloquent women than her could not.

This confirms my suspicions that decisions for her advancement was not made in backrooms, but
    rather in bedrooms.

Cooper, probably is at least partially an attention ego trip.

Queen Ester, good analysis. Money motivates so many things. She’s typifying scummy journalist right now; not that it’s new territory for her.

SJP, I’m going to skip contacting those folks about it cause it’s all to trivial to me. It is kind of messed up to sex and tell; but then again if Edward Brooke hadn’t of done it, there’d be nothing to tell. So, in the end he embarrassed his own family. Not excusing Walters at all, but it was his family bond to not betray.

  13. Sojourner's Place on May 4th, 2008 5:51 pm | link

Yobachi - I completely agree with you regarding Brooke’s role in this. He is certainly not blameless and as far as I’m concerned he should have said “no” before he said “yess”. He did what he did because he could and he did so without considering his family. I put him in the same boat as Jackson, Clinton, and any other man (or woman) out there for being stupid and allowing their urges or fantasies rule good judgement. But, I also recognize that human nature is just that - human…and we all fall short in one way or another. What outrages me, however, is that Walter’s - at least the way the article protrays it - announces this as “her black badge of courage” in an effort to sell her book under what one could consider by reputable avenues. I suspect that she is now the spokeswoman for “jungle feavor” and president of the “some of my best friends are Black” club. SjP

Yes, but really to bring it up now is ridiculous. I didn’t care about her life before this, and this certainly doesn’t really increase my interest in her any more, it smacks of desperation.

The best is to ignore here and maybe she will float into obscurity and the archives as she should have done years ago.

LOL Shecodes, “not in back rooms but in bedrooms”.

Comoe on, whatever annoyances her personality might bring; she’s not talentless. Though I’m sure other assets and activities helped.

SJP, well I guess Senatro Brooke wasn’t a flip floper; lol

This is a skeevie little ploy by Barbs; and I’m sure she feel likes some sort of progressive hero. She’s a pioneer in the fight to F our way to equality.

Everybody has an opinion of what is right or what is wrong, just for the record.
Barbara Walters, did accomplish a great many things that those who may have
been smarter, stronger, braver, and eloquent but the bottom line is she did
and they didn’t. As far as the affair is concerned they were to consenting adults
She didn’t hold a gun to his top head, although there may have been a little
blowing on his bottom head. However least I digress. Get off her back and let the
woman finalize her career her way. Cause if any of you had as interesting a life
you be telling some stuff too.
    Peace and Love
