Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
September 30th, 2008
I’d seen part of Jackie Brown on cable this weekend. I’d just watched one scene; when Deniro and Samuel L. Jackson are driving in the van and realize that they got ripped for their doe.
I changed after that scene; but was flipping channels later on and saw Pam Grier driving a car, so of course I have to stop for Foxy Brown herself; and I hear this song:
Obviously this is the opening of the movie, but what I saw was the closing and she was sadly singing along.
I’ve seen the movie before; but probably not all at once from beginning to end so I wasn’t familiar with the song playing in the film.
Great song that really captures the emotion of the human condition.
I saw Bobby Womack in Concert here in Nashville a couple of months ago; stage side. He doesn’t move too well these days, and looks frail; but still sounds good and gives a charismatic performance.

The movie was just ok, nothing special to me, but the song was great, Bobby Womack is the truth.
I pretty much agree on both accounts.
