Chaka Khan On The Drumbs

December 14th, 2007

Watch my baby get down

I never knew she played. A lot of singers are pianist; but this is rare, especially for a female.

Chicks on the drums is hot!

Why not a little more Chaka while we’re at it

She’s really looking good in this Soul Train appearence

…oh yeah, and her singing is really good too.

Yeah, set my stuff on fire, girl!!!

Ya’learn something new everyday! Over all these years I never knew that Chaka Kahn played the drums, and I love the girl! As successful as she has been over the lifetime of her career, she was at her funkiest when she was with Rufus. Good post! :)

Rufus brought the funk to support the voice

    :D

She was so unusual looking…my parents took me to see her about 3 different times when I was a little girl..I have always loved her and Rufus, and still do to this day.

unusual looking in a good way?

She may look unique, but she’s hot to me.

That’s great you got to go see her in concerts.

LOL. She looked a little nervous at first, but it was good. And in a dress at that.

Unusual, not good or bad, just different…definitely sexy tho. She did look mad nervous in that clip, not as confident as her singing…it was a treat to see.

Dang Yobachi, you dug up the Mike Douglas Show from back in the day! I remember seeing Curtis Blow and the Sugar Hill Gang for the first time on his show probably a couple of years after that Chaka clip.

And yes, we must have “Tell Me Something Good” on Soul Train or the post just would not be complete!

Sorry bro. I’m going to have to steal your link and post it as my music throwback for the week. Great research man. Pulling out the all the stops with the Rufus archive. You are a force to be reckoned with.

The Mike Douglas Show was before my time; I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of it before I found this clip last week.

I just happen to come across it as I was looking up another Tell Me Something Good clip for my Pimp C Is Dead article below. I referenced Chaka and Rufus in that post because a smaple o Something Good was UGK’s first hit.

Hell, Sugar Hill Gang came out when I was 1, so yeah, all before my time. I just like good classic soul muisic. I just like good music period.

Yobachi, I surfed over here from Marty’s site. I do remember the Mike Douglas Show, Mervin Griffin, Ed Sullivan and some other shows from well before you were probably even thought about. LOL!

Just as I remember the first time the Jackson Five performed on national television, I remember Rufus on The Midnight Special hosted by Wolfman Jack. It was one of my most memorable musical moments. I was awe struck by the cute afro and red tube top Chaka Khan wore — yes, I remember. Of course all the girls in school wanted to look just like her and my folks were not about to let me wear a tube top to school or anywhere else. I did manage to conceal my tube top under my blouse and my hot pants under my skirt but that’s another story. You do know what a tube top is, right?

    Anyhoo, thanks for the post.

Yeah, I saw Marty’s post Plez.

Glad you enjoyed it; I thought a lot of people would.

Yes, I know what a tube top is, lol. :D The make a come back every 10 years. That’s a tube top chaka’s wearing in the soul train video.

And you’ve really dated your self Nessa, I wouldn’t have guess you were, ummmmm, that experienced, lol.

The first time the Jackson 5 were on t.v.? All I remember is when Michael Jackson’s Beat It video premiered on Mtv and it was a big event with a lot of build up. We were on vacation so we saw it at my aunts house in Detriot. I remember that night.
