Governor Eliot Spitzer and the Media Whoredom

March 14th, 2008

In consecutive days I’m forced to comment on something do to the insistence of someone(s) harping. Yesterday it was Ferraro, today it’s the Spitzer coverage fiasco.

Yes, the coverage is more of a fiasco disgrace to me than Spitzer’s actions themselves.

The name and photos of his D.C. prostitute have come to light; but I will not post her name, and I will not post her picture. I will not talk about her specifically at all.

Every time, which is at least once every half hour on ever news show I watch; this woman is paraded across the screen. One of the broadcast network’s morning entertainment “news” shows even had the high class hookers friend’s on to be interviewed. I turned as soon as I saw the teaser.

I’m calling everybody out who’s posted this women’s picture and name, mainstream media to blogs; and in turned have given her undo notoriety. Why are you guys making this slut a celebrity?

You turn a whore into a hero, and then you wonder why a quarter of teenage girls have STDs. Why do they have’em…because the culture tells them to go fuck; point blank period – including all the so-called Christians on Fox news, a network that is as sexually salacious as any other for ratings.

Who the prostitute was that Spitzer was getting it on with is totally irrelevant. Certainly popularizing her name and image, and her friend’s opinions have no relevancy; and is unnecessary to reporting the news of this issue. It’s simply gratuitous. Wew, the Gov was getting his jimmy waxed. Let’s see the hot piece of ass that he paid 4,300 dollars to in one night.

Just when I think I’ve shook my head for the last time at what the news culture and public decency has devolved to; I realize that my neck will never get the opportunity to heal.

And let’s understand that I’m hardly a prude, or an overly stringent sexual moralist; but I think there’s a time and a place for everything, and that substituting news with constant salacious pabulum, and then wondering why most “patriotic Americans” have no ideal about important things like how many of “the troops that they honor” have died in Iraq; is detrimental to the body politic and social health.

Edited to add: just two minutes after posting this Dan Abrams on MSNBC just played this girl’s song, as she is an aspiring singer.

Well, this is a lesson on How To Make it In the Music Industry: Become a high class hooker and screw a prominent politician, so you can get your music played to millions on a popular national cable network - because rewarding women for going into prostitution is the signal we want to send to keep all those teenage girls from getting STDs.

This is the second time in this half hour that Abrams has given her publicity

He isn’t the only one giving her publicity. Z100, a radio station in NYC, has played her music all morning. It’s been said to have been played at least four times each hour since 6am. She was also selling her music on a some site. They had it for $.20 a single. Now it is going for $.98. She walks away with 70% of the revenue.

That’s absolutely ridiculous. It’ disgusting the people that American’s hail. Do you remember that there were tons of people protesting outside the court house in favor of John Gotti. A low life mass murder is even a hero in this country.

It’s a very sad state of affairs. Americans are obsessed with celebrity, in any form or fashion. What makes me angry is the people of the media that buy into this and continue to report this negativity. It’s up to us…the normal thinking segment of society to call/write to let these outlets know we don’t appreciate it.

Exquisitely Black, I agree that we have to let the media know what the rest of us want to see reported if the news culture is to finally be elevated.

We also have to take the responsibility to support the types of news and arts that we want by voting with our dollars. Money talks and, well you know what walks.

That is the nature of the media, love it or leave it. American is fascinated with booty. Girl friend has a nice booty and now she will make big money and become famous. Her working days are over. BTW, have you ever heard of the casting bed in Hollywood?
