Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
April 15th, 2008

The chameleon politician who pretends to be all things to all people, and routinely takes different positions on the campaign trail than the ones she’s always held; now is trying to pretend like she’s a daughter of the gun culture, and a second amendment defender.
Well, Obama responded to Clinton’s new found wild west styling of herself. This clip is hilarious. I’ve seen it a least a dozen times, and still get an audible laugh out of it every time.
The Short Version
He ought to do this more. This is what I’ve been talking about how he can respond strongly without out being low down and nasty. Most of the time he’s mumble mouthed and muted in responses to attacks, coming off very soft and disengaged. [Obama Plays Patty Cakes, While Clinton Punches Him In The Face]
But this was hilarious. He was humorous and not nasty; but yet he’s begun to change the character of the debate and turned it back on Clinton. It’s reminiscent of when back in july; responding to Clinton’s attack that he is naive because he’s willing to engage in diplomacy rather then continue Bush’s policy of refusing to talk to enemies, he said he didn’t want a continuation of “Bush-Cheney lite” [start about the 1:22 mark of that video]. Why he so often refuses to engage in this manner, and just sits back and takes the pummeling is beyond me; especially considering how effective it is when he does give a strong response.
STEELTON, PENNSYLVANIA: Democrat Barack Obama yesterday lashed out at rival Hillary Clinton, mocking her sudden vocal support for gun rights.
‘‘She knows better. Shame on her. Shame on her,’’ he told an audience in Steelton.
Mr Obama had spent two days on the defensive after comments he made at a San Francisco fundraiser suggesting workingclass people were bitter about their economic circumstances and ‘‘cling to guns and religion’’ as a result. Mrs Clinton has called him ‘‘elitist and divisive’’.
After reiterating his regret for his choice of words, Mr Obama turned the tables on Mrs Clinton noting that she accepted campaign contributions from drug and insurance company lobbyists and mocking, among other things, her sudden fealty to the rights of gun owners.
‘‘She is running around talking about how this is an insult to sportsmen, how she values the Second Amendment. She’s talking like she’s Annie Oakley,’’ he said, invoking the famed female sharpshooter.
He continued, saying: ‘‘Hillary Clinton is out there like she’s on the duck blind every Sunday. She’s packing a six-shooter. Come on, she knows better. That’s some politics being played by Hillary Clinton.’’
Mr Obama said Mrs Clinton’s history in the White House and Senate proved she was not as sensitive to the concerns of working class voters in Pennsylvania and elsewhere as she tried to suggest. Pennsylvania’s primary is next week.
The Clinton campaign issued a quick retort.
‘‘The shame is his. Senator Clinton does know better . . . than to condescend and talk down to voters,’’ a spokesman said.
