Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
June 5th, 2008
Eight of Senator Hillary Clinton’s supporters in the Senate, by prodding of Senator Clinton’s own staff; urged her on a conference call to get out and she agreed that “that makes sense”. Likewise, 23 House supporters told Senator Clinton today that she needed to release them from her support, as they would have to upstage her and endorse Obama if she didn’t go ahead and do so herself soon.
She’s supposed to hold an event on Friday to thank her supporters and endorse Obama.
She had already started to give hints to this even this morning before supporters pushed her when saying at the pro-Israel meeting AIPAC meeting, “I know, I know that Senator Obama understands what is at stake here. It has been an honor to contest these primaries with him. It is an honor to call him my friend and let me be very clear: Let me be very clear, I know that Senator Obama will be a good friend to Israel”
Howard Wolfson, Clinton’s Communications Director, has confirmed this. Keith Olbermann also reports that Obama will be there with Clinton.
Clinton Expected to Drop Out Friday, Endorse Obama
Edited To Add:
They’re now reporting that she’ll hold a private event to formally announce to some supporters that she’s getting out; then will hold a public event to do the same on Saturday.
Also, that her VP bid is basically a no go as far as Obama is concerned because of her and Slick Willy Bill’s unwillingness to be open and honest about their finances; including his business dealings in the last 8 years, and the donors for his presidential library.

Yobachi, I can’t believe that Hillary’s trotting out Robert Johnson, the BET founder to advocate for her getting the V.P. slot. Doesn’t she realize that anger at Robert Johnson as a Clinton surrogate is one of the key factors that caused Black America to utterly reject Clinton? So why would trotting him out again at this point be any more helpful than it was the last time.
Anyway, you and I made our feelings known through the “Concede Now, Hillary!” campaign, and our widget was adopted 101 times in different places. Although some people said our and Color of Change’s petition’s were a waste of time (speaking specifically of some idiots at MyDD), still I think those petitions helped to make it clear that the idea of superdelegates giving the election to Hillary was a no-go, a non-starter.
I should be in a mood to celebrate, I guess, but I’m not. I guess I’m better at responding to emergencies and outrages than I am at celebrating victories.
Anyway, congratulations to you and to all of your readers for all of the things you’ve done, big and small, to get us to this historic point.
Clearly, the wife of the “first black president” either doesn’t understand and surely doesn’t care about how Black people feel. She believes Bob Johnson can wield power, and as she has demonstrated throughout this campaign, and throughout her life; that’s all she cares about, amassing and wielding power.
And I’m more celebratory of tap dancing on the Clinton’s grave, than I am about Barack winning. That’s what they have brought me to.
Congratulations to you too on your hard work.
u know from a pocketbook perspective - yes but all depends on what her handlers say folk
Rawdog, I’m not sure what you’re refering to in particular.
From what I hear she will be suspending her campaign, not conceding. That means that she can come back and super delegates can change their minds. Don’t count her out until the nomination is official.
Natalie, suspending and conceding are not mutally exclusive. Actually you don’t suspend unless you’re conceeding. The act of suspension is an act of concession.
But you’re right, she stays on the nomination ballot until the convention and official delegates votes are cast.
Edwards initially did the same thing though, he suspended his campaign in early march; but did not officially ended it until a couple of weeks ago when he endorsed Obama and released his delegates.
She wants to keep the door open in case something happens that’s a knockout punch to Obama, like these rumored Michelle Obama tapes. If you end the campaign you lose all your delegates and her right to a spot on the convention nomination ballot. If you suspend you keep them. And it’s not just the superdelegates that can change votes, all delegates can.
So yeah, keep an eye on her for the next two months; but I’d call this at least conceeding pending nothing nuclear happening to Obama’s campaign.
