Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
September 16th, 2008
“I was born in the slum, but the slum was not born in me. And it wasn’t born in you, and you can make it.
Wherever you are tonight, you can make it. Hold your head high; stick your chest out. You can make it. It gets dark sometimes, but the morning comes. Don’t you surrender!
Suffering breeds character, character breeds faith. In the end faith will not disappoint.
You must not surrender! You may or may not get there but just know that you’re qualified! And you hold on, and hold out! We must never surrender!! America will get better and better.
Keep hope alive. Keep hope alive! Keep hope alive! On tomorrow night and beyond, keep hope alive!
I love you very much. I love you very much.”
The scriptures tell us that “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” Hebrews 11:1
Obama speaks of Hope after Iowa Caucus win:
“We are choosing hope over fear, unity over division; and sending a powerful message that change is coming to America…
“Hope is not blind optimism. It’s not ignoring the enormity of the task ahead, or the road blocks that stand in our path; it’s not sitting on the sidelines or shirking from a fight. Hope is that thing inside us, that insist, despite all the evidence to the contrary; that something better awaits us if we have the courage to reach for it, to work for it, and to fight for it“
Andy In Shawshank Redemption on Hope
Now following hope must come action. If you want things out of this world, or would like to see things change or happen in this world, you have to fight for it. Hope that’s not followed up by work then becomes empty feeling.
Let’s go get’em!
