MIAMI - Hurricane Ike is on the cusp of major hurricane status as it aims for Texas, with winds of 110 mph. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami say the storm could become a Category 3 hurricane with winds of at least 111 mph before it hits the coast late Friday or early Saturday.
The storm is about 100 miles southeast of Galveston, and is moving to the northwest at 13 mph.
Towering waves have begun crashing crashing over the 17-foot Galveston seawall and floodwaters are rising in low-lying areas. Authorities say roughly 90,000 in three counties have stayed behind despite dire warnings.
Also, check these photos out from earlier in the day:

Tina Turner is not there, but Hurricane Ike, much like the rock pioneer, is fitna beat somebody’s ass.

People losing homes, mass confusion all around, and people are still hating on Tina Turner.
What a shame.
Ike was pretty bad. I have relatives that got out in time. it seems we’re having hurricane after hurricane. With global warming and the melting polar caps…it’s only gonna get worse
I still haven’t called around to see what happen with my Houston relatives; but they should be fine.
I spent the whole weekend doing that a couple of weeks ago when that last one went through Mississippi and Louisiana.
