Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
September 3rd, 2008
This is what I’m doing with my local group in Nashville, the Nashville Black Covenant Coalition. I’m posting here because for one, it’ll make it more search-able locall; but also as an example of what you could also do in your local area.
Immediate Release
September 1, 2008
On Saturday September 6, the Nashville Black Covenant Coalition will be hosting a Voting Rights Restoration event at the Hadley Park Library from 10am to 1:00 pm.
Many former felons who have lost their right to vote are eligible to regain those rights, and participate fully in the political process as they work to re-integrate back into society. At times this process can be complicated, and even appear more daunting than it is.
That’s why the NBCC has assembled state and federal lawyers to be on hand at the Hadley Park Library for free consultation and help with walking former felons through the process of restoring their rights.
The event will include lawyers and others knowledgeable about Tennessee ’s voting rights restoration process, who will be on hand to help eligible former felons with filling out paper work, answering questions and walking them through the process of restoring their rights.
Also, we will be registering people to vote who have not yet registered. It only takes a couple of minutes to fill out the voter registration card; and we will then turn it in to the Election
Commission for you.
Hadely Library is located at the corner of Jefferson St and 28th Avenue in front of TSU; next to the Wendy’s.
