Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens

Is it all a big overreaction?
This girl in her video asked this question, and I was feelin’ my own answer so tough I decided to make my response a post; with some added commentary.
FYI, the WHO is the World Health Organization.
It being “overblown” is relative. The total number of people infected so far is not the issue, it’s what could happen if you didn’t go high alert about it. It being a new strand where people neither have built up immunity nor is there a vaccination, gives it great opportunity for high virulence (virulence in short is the strength and varsity of the virus).
Epidemic and pandemic refer to the breath, how widespread, as opposed to being localized. A lot of local cases would be the depth.
So you’re just looking at how much it’s spreading in numbers of people, & you’re say not a lot. They’re looking at how wide its spreading geographically, & it’s quickly moving across the planet.
Now if they waited for a bunch of people to die in the U.S. & then sounded the alarm the same people would then be screaming bloody murder about “why didn’t the warn us sooner. You knew! You knew and you didn’t warn us evil government and health community”! The government is evil; but I’m just saying; the same people would have it both ways.
It’s a prevention measure. Why would you want to wait til a bunch of people die to start letting people know to take precautions? Plus, at that point its less containable and even more people on top of that would suffer or die when you could have contained it in the first place. Plus then it starts mutating, and be comes even more virulent, and uuggh.
Now, don’t get me wrong. There’s certainly media hype; because the media hypes and dramatizes everything as dramatic entertainment and not news is what they primarily sell. But nonetheless, I’ll take a little over-hyped awareness and vigilance over being under-aware and blaze’; all day everyday.
p.s. you’ll hear about the NIH and the CDC a lot in these things and they stand for the National Institute of Health and the Centers for Disease Control.

I think this is a good wake up call for us all to get prepared for after the summer as this is when we will see if and how bad this flu will get. It’s always good to have an emergency stash anyway; you never know earthquakes, floods, etc. I keep hearing folks say this is no big deal thousands of people a year die of the flu, but most of the deaths are the sick and old. W.H.O I “heard” said this flu is different because it seems to affect and be killing the young and healthy ages 20 to 35 in Mexico.
Yeah, the age thing I kind of left since a baby is the only one who died in the U.S. so far; but that an as you say we haven’t seen it at full strength until fall are more good point.
Some people don’t get it, but it’s because they’d rather be a smart ass than try to understand what’s going on.
I don’t think so, taking all the precautionary measures is must as the country is already facing the biggest economic crisis.
