Jena Six Page

September 4th, 2007

For regular updates on the Jena Six, see The Jena 6 Blog which I author.

If you’re not familiar with the Jena 6 story you’re a little late, but that’s okay. Here’s an article to get you caught up.

Join the Virtual March if you can’t be in Jena on September 20th. Also, everyone is being asked to wear black on that day in solidarity and a show of support.

Read the Nashville Black Covenant Coalition Press Release for why the March will go on; despite the overturned conviction.

Also you should read about our campaign to enlist the media to covering this socially, politically, and legally relevant story.

Thank you for featuring a “Jena Six” page, and providing comprehensive information for those who know little or nothing about the Jena Six and the movement of support. You can check out my blog on the Jena Six at http://www.satessay-satessay.blogspot.com

What happened to living in peace as God intended His people to do? I saw a piece on the Dr. Phil show this week regarding this issue. I live in the South, I have many black friends (some I care very deeply for), and I am a supporter of equal rights. From all of the information that I have read, everyone is overlooking the main problem. Regardless of the words that are spoken to us and the actions that are placed to us, it does not justify beating anyone! Regardless of the color of their skin. YES! The boys should have been rightfully punished for their hanging those things in the ‘white tree’. I totally agree! But, does their actions justify beating someone that had nothing to do with it? Just because he was a white person! Get real people! From my experience, especially in the South, black people often use race a way of getting out of their wrong doing. White people aren’t given that option. If they do something wrong, they pay for it, point blank. Black people can get by with more if they place the race card. Now, is that justice? Now, having said this, everyone should understand that I totally support equal rights! But, on BOTH sides of the fence. I have alot of black friends and some have even said that they see black people taking the easy way out by using race to get their way. These are comments from your community and supporters of equal justice. I would not normally make such comments to start such a conflict as I am sure these comments will. But, when I see these families on TV that are supporting their children, I see alot of hatred and anger. The attitudes expressed by one mother in particular, was really rude and wrong! Her whole attitude was uncooperative! How can we resolve racial issues if we don’t cooperate with the people who are trying to help us? Now, some of the parents shown in that piece were very understanding and looking at this the right way, in that we should not allow any racial tension in our children. We, as parents, need to work on our children’s actions towards people of different races. But, we can only teach them so much. In High School, they start to take on their own personalities and trates. They are easily influenced by their peers. Teens make mistakes! They do dumb things! I did, you did, and everyone does. We are all sinners and we all sin, but that doesn’t make it right! AND hatred is a sin, just as treating black people with less respect. Two wrongs don’t make one right. Please, put your anger aside, support your children, influence them before their peers do, make them understand that we are all God’s children! Heaven isn’t going to be divided between races or religions! AND that should be our ultimate goal, to get into Heaven and spend eternity in peace and love with our God. May He be with all of these families involved. Sorry for the novel! This just struck me on a very sensitive side because I am such a supporter of equal rights. I was offended!
