This is a monthly series at BlackPerspective.net. Beauty in our country and in world culture is most often measured through the lens of white men; here we’ll take a Black perspective on beauty. Beauty comes in many forms, and we will highlight some various different types of beauties.

Jennifer Kate Hudson was born on September 12, 1981, in Chicago, Illinois. She came to fame finishing sixth on the third season of American Idol in 2004; when she and two other Black soul singers (Fantasia Barrino and La Toya London) occupied too much of the same space to all garner continued support from the largely white pop based audience.
“Hudson appeared with the “American Idol” summer tour and performed on the road in concerts over the next two years. She auditioned for the coveted role of Effie Melody White, the cast-off member of a popular 60s Supremes-like girl group in the long-awaited film version of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls. Among Jennifer’s competition was Fantasia herself. This time Jennifer was the winner”

She killed the role in dreams girls, winning the Oscar for best supporting actress; in which she also delivered a tour de force vocal performance of And I’m Telling You.
On September 27, 2008, she finally release her debut album; which I could verify the album as last having sold 800,000 copies world wide.
In October of that same year her mother and nepher were found murdered in her mom’s home. Her brother-in-law has been charged with the crime.
she made a triumphant return to the public spotlight in February of 2009 singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl.
She’s now touring a with producer/songwriter from her album, Robin Thick.
