Dear Mr. Plepler

HBO did a commendable thing recently in purchasing what is purported to be a powerful documentary on the history leading to the Darfur crisis - Sand and Sorrow. Yet then with something as time sensitive as present genocide, and despite the rising crescendo of public outcry here in the U.S. and elsewhere for something to be done in Darfur; HBO decided to shelve the doc until December.

This perplexing move by HBO is another blow to the movement.

I would like to urge them to air the documentary now. The people of Darfur don’t have the time to wait for support that is already years too late. They need the public consciousness
awakened now, and HBO could help with that by simply airing a property it already owns.

I know you have normal protocol for leading time and promotion of a program; but this is a special situation. Did you wait 5 months to air programming on 9/11 after the event even though you didn’t have lead time?

It is of no undertaking for HBO to simply put something on the air that has already been produced and acquired; so we are not asking anything the least bit extraordinary or burdensome of you.

Please act now, the moment to help the people of Darfur could use this fuel.

Sincerely,

D. Yobachi Boswell

Jena Six Letters

Subject: Justice For the Jena Six

As I’m sure you are aware, six young men in Jena Louisiana have been charged (and one convicted) in a school fight with criminal allegations that far exceed any reasonable and objective person’s interpretation of a relatively common event. Except the precursor activities that lead to the fight aren’t so common, or at least we would like to think that they aren’t anymore.

Black students were racially harassed and threatened with bodily harm, death and prison, and when they finally reacted, they were charged with ridiculous crimes that clearly don’t fit the facts; while they’re harassers and intimidators were allowed to walk away scott free. We’d hoped this Jim Crow type of “Justice” was over in Louisiana; but apparently it’s not.

I implore you to have the state Attorney General’s Office to act on these civil rights abuses and abuses of power by the local police and prosecutor’s in Jena Louisiana. Sitting by idle, watching these racial abuses transpire; declaring this to be a local issue will only put you in company with many southern governors of times gone by.

If responding please respond by email at lionrunner777@yahoo.com

I also sent a fax to the state attorney general where the first to paragraphs are the same but the last one is different.

TO: Attorney General Foti
C/O Julie Cullen, Criminal Division Director

As the state’s Attorney General and hence chief law enforcement officer, it is your obligation and duty to protect the constitution of the state and protect the civil rights of its citizens; including reigning in rouge and malicious prosecutors. These civil rights abuses and abuses of power by the local police and prosecutors in Jena Louisiana must be confronted and stopped. Please act now.

Are You Familiar With “Universal Default”

Based on this post

Dear Senator/Representative ___________________,

I am highly concerned and disconcerted regarding the credit practice of Universal Default. A practice that allows credit card companies to decide that if you’re late on a payment of any debt (and on other factors), that the creditor that you may have never been late in paying can still raise your interest rate to 30 percent or more.

This is an unacceptable and unfair predatory practice; and as a citizen and a constituent I demand that you do something about it.

Creditors are able to do this based on being allowed to access customer credit reports, which are made available to them due to credit laws that allow them access to this information. Under the same principles of law that allows them this access to our personal information, the people have the right through there elected representatives to refuse this undo, unilateral change of contract terms via this practice.

This abusive method of taking advantage of consumers is a patently unfair and unwarranted trade practice; and it is bad faith contracting. It is simply a way for the Haves in this country to prey on the have-nots and the powerless. There is no viable cost or expense reason why a creditor should exorbitantly raise the interest rate of a person who is paying their bill on time to that creditor.

I ask that the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs committee and the House Committee on Financial Services bring legislation to the floor of their respective houses banning this unjust attack on the citizenry; and that you personal support such legislation.

Thank you,
