Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens

Some lawyer says Megan Williams, the 2007 victim of a sorted rape, torture, slavery case; is going to hold a press conference today to recant her claims. If you’re not familiar with the story, you can take a peak back here.
If she made it up, she’s a despicable woman who deserves to do years in prison. But something ain’t right here. Every article written on the subject says nothing except, she made it up, and will hold a press conference to recant.
Okay she made it up, so on what evidence did the prosecutors prosecute the case on; and why did 7 different people jump to plead guilty? I understand how plea bargaining works; just watched a documentary last week about people being forced into plea bargains based on being ridiculously overcharged. But out of 7 people who didn’t do anything you’d think one of them would stand up and say “no, I’m not a brutal rapist and I’m going to trial”.
What’s even more wrong is that not one of the articles I read is even slightly addressing these questions. No mention of the pink elephants sitting in the middle of the room. I can’t form an opinion one way or the other due to the egregious lack info provided in the mainstream media articles that we have to rely on.

We’ll see how this unfolds and I’ll report back and comment based on how it all comes down.
Edited to add:
I finally found one article that starts to address the plea convictions. According to the Associated Press:
Brian Abraham, the former Logan County prosecutor who oversaw those cases, dismissed the news conference as a publicity stunt.
Abraham says the seven, who all pleaded guilty, were convicted on physical evidence and their own statements, not statements from Williams.
We have to remember that Ms. Williams is mentally slow, and could be being manipulated right now, again; have to see how it plays out.

I haven’t seen any information about a press conference … but, I would agree with the prosecutor that it is likely a stunt of some sort. Everyone wants to be ‘balloon boy’ nowadays…
peace, Villager
I’m thinking stunt as well: that someone one has convinced her to participate in some shinanigans for some attention and financial gain.
I read she said her mom made her say she was raped
Her mom was hoping for attention and financial gain. She stated now that her mom has died she is no longer in fear of her. The girl was dating one of the convicted and all involved were not playing with a full deck. When you are poor, uneducated and living in run down trailer you plead guilty when you’re told it’s that and 3 years or 20 years if you choose to fight the charges which will keep you in jail for 2 to 3 years anyway waiting for trial and appeals. The prosecutor even said she was unreliable because she kept elaborating adding things and changing her story. I think these people need to be let out of jail as it’s better to let a crime go than keep the innocent in jail and after all she says she is not a victim of a crime.
The only thing that is sad is she is slow so there very well could be a crime at least some mistreatment but she is not mental able to understand what’s what.

Good points Kim.
I think its pretty clear that the one defendant that she dated, Bobby what’s his name; abused her, that is beat her, whether it was once or regularly.
I don’t think we got the real story the first time, nor are we getting it now. Lots of questins need to be answered. The entire case of the prosecution needs to be laid out in detail for examination.
I might personally request the plea deal records, that stuff has to be public information.
Most bizarre. I’m with you. I could see some people being pressured into plea deals, but it’s strange that not one of the 7 denied having done it and insisted on a trial. It’s sad if she’s being manipulated and maybe worse if she’s manipulative.
