Mike Vick Sentenced to 23 months. Read about it from USA Today, below:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison Monday for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy that involved gambling and killing pit bulls.
The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback could have been sentenced up to five years by U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson. Vick, who turned himself in Nov. 19 in anticipation of his sentence, was wearing a black-and-white striped prison suit.
Damn, two years for dog fighting - damn!
I knew it wasn’t going to be good when the snitches got 12 to 18. The guy getting snitched on always gets more time than the snitches; that’s why they snitch.
It’s funny, all the thug ass dudes who go around talking about “Stop Snitiching” are the first ones to turned states evidence when they get knocked. It almost never fails.
Pacman Jones just took a plea deal to snitch last week too. “Stop Snitching” is for people who don’t commit crimes, all the people that do, rat as fast as they can.

I think that Vick was treated fairly. I don’t think that the dog fighting was the essence of his sentencing, I think that it was the inhumane treatment of the dogs. And for that he does need an ass whipping.
I mean, I kind of agree; the way they tourtured the dogs is worst than the dog fighting; but man, somebody losing two years of their life over some dogs is hard to swallow.
But either way, he knew it was illegal, and choose to put himself in this position; then went and smoked weed after pleading guilty; so he gets what he gets.
What we as a Black community must come to understand is that in this country, it is not the actual crime which is committed, but it is certainly whom you are. If we are watching carefully, we can notice that more Blacks who are considered rich and have status are being hauled into the courtrooms. I must agree that Blacks have to know that when they are in the spotlight, they have to be three times better, watch their backs at all times and not be affiliated with wrongdoing. The White media is always going to be constantly there to break the story. Vick, like so many Blacks wanted to help family and friends. Steve Harvey stated in one of his stand up shows, that once you make it, you can’t take everyone from the hood with you. Some people you have to leave behind.
I think what makes me angry about this situation is that this man was worth 140 million dollars. When his family and friends were caught in the dog fighting rap, they did not have to involve Michael Vick. Loyalty should have persuaded them to say that Vick was not involved. They could have served their time and I am sure that he would have taken care of them when they came out. Because of their disloyalty, now everyone is poor. Blacks need to use common sense. What disturbs me is that they all are going to do some time, but in the meanwhile, these snitches have ruined a man’s life over dogs. I, in no way advocate the killing of animals, however I am disturbed to know that this country can scream at the killing of an animal more than they can at the killing and abuse of Black and Brown human beings. There is something so sinister about this.
As you stated, people who are not involved in wrongdoing are not snitches. If I see someone robbing my neighbor’s home, yes; I am going to call the police. That person is preying on my neighborhood. But as you stated, the preditors living off of Vick’s money snitched just to save their own behinds. Yes, Vick should be punished for his participation, but to detroy his life for an animal, come on? People this is not about the destruction of an animal’s life, this is about the continued destruction of Black and Brown people of this country who have beat the odds of racism and achieved status and money. We need to determine where our loyalties lie.
Our children are under attack and we are now seeing an attack on those persons whom are able to raise the economic status in our communties. Many before us have stated numerous times, that when you are Black, whatever you achieve, you have to be ten times better and careful, that has not changed. I really hope that the Blacks whom have made it take note. Our struggle is continuing.
You should have read the local paper www.nwi.com (The Times) which put up some comments from people that said he should have got more…1 year for each dog (8 dogs.)
When a woman in Tennessee shot her preacher husband and got 3 years, I suppose that was an “ok” sentence???
Since I do blog about it, I spent 27 months locked up for a Stalking charge. (No matter how I relate it, the story is much more involved than this case is. And I didn’t commit a violent act, gain money or anything close to that. I talked too much — and that gets you in trouble.)
Point is, do I think justice was served on Mike? Not really. If we are going to make this such a punishable offense, we need to put it in line with other crimes.
But I don’t believe that will ever happen. Moreover, I find it funny when people have a desire to see so much punishment for someone’s misdeeds, yet, when it is them, they want mercy.
Be careful what you wish on people, it might come to your door someday.
That lady here in Tennessee was sentence to 3 year, but in actuality she only had to server a few months. Not that much acrimony from white folks, even locally, on that one.
One year per dog is absurd, they’re fucking dogs.
With that said, I’m not exactly about to cry for Mike for a couple of reasons: 1) The dog fighting, though I don’t think it’s good, it not the most horrible thing in the world; but the torture instead of just shooting them to put them down was just uncalled for. 2) He knew it was illegal, period. He shouldn’t have done it. He rolled the dice and risked everything for nothing, so too bad. 3) Even after he plead guilty and was awaiting sentence, he had the nerve to go commit another crime - smoked weed. The weed smoking itself is not even my issue; it’s the fact that he would commit another crime while asking for leniency.
If you’re going to keep intentionally shooting yourself in the foot; I’m not going to be heartbroken.
But I am disgusted about the acrimony from white folks over dogs; while they could give a shit less about humans in Darfur, or in Iraq, or are the some same folks always excusing the behavior of someone like Andrea Yates who drowned her own kids. They care more about drowned fucking dogs than human kids. As a matter of fact, I find suck people to be literally frightening. I’m more concerned about living in a society with them than I am about living in a society with Michael Vick.
