Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
September 23rd, 2007
In the words of the great Chi-lites song, have you seen her?

Chicago resident Nailah Fanklin is missing. As usual, the national media is missing as well. I have to give credit to CNN for running a substantive story last night, but that’s it. Nothing else on the news all day today, and nothing from the national media on the net — except Fox News, how you like them apples. Thanks white liberals!
No doubt if she had a thin nose, blond hair and blue eyes, everyone in the country would know here name. But alas, she’s one of the Wretched of the Earth, and her life is not worth saving.
Last anyone heard from Nailah was a suspicious text messages on Wednesday night, September the 18th. Her family doesn’t really believe the message, saying that she was at dinner and would call later, was actually from her.
She has not been heard from since.
She reported to the police previously that she was being stalked by a man. Thanks to the dearth of news coverage, I can’t locate any details about that.
According to Fox, “Franklin’s car, along with some personal items, was found Friday night near an abandoned building in Hammond, Ind”. CNN also reported her laptop missing.
Here are the specs on the 28 year old Pharmaceutical sales rep, according to Missing and Exploited’s site:
Description:
Franklin is African-American
about 5 feet 2 inches tall
weighing 110 pounds
brown hair
brown eyes
She drives a company-owned gray 2005 Chevrolet sedan with Illinois license plate 1957855
Speak up and let’s find Nailah Franklin! We let the ball drop on Stepha Henry, don’t let it drop here.

Thankyou for sharing this. It’s posted at UltravioletUnderground with urging for readers to continue spreading the word.
We saw Thursday that the bloggosphere can bring the heat.
It appears we’ll have to be the media on this as well. Hopefully we can make a difference for this woman, and other missing black people.
actually I saw this on anderson cooper, headline news, and Nancy Grace had Jeff Johnson( cool intellectual dude with the dreds) from BET talking about it. Still it’ll get more burn through ‘us’ as in bloggers than ‘them’ as in mainstream media.
I didn’t mean for people to think that I pressume that I see every report on a story on television. I neither can, nor want to watch every channel 24 hours a day.
The thing is, I’ve not watched any less tv the last 3 days then I did when the Elizabeth Smart, Natalie Holloway, Lauri Hacking or Laci Peterson stories broke; and I saw those reports all day, all over the place, without even looking for them. I couldn’t escape them.
Let’s see if they even bother airing or cut it off after two or three days like they did Stepha Henry
Strange case indeed. Thanks for posting this, Yobachi.

I’m glad you posted it to. The of us who do, the more her story will stay alive. We’ve seen what the bloggospher and afrosphere in specifice can do with our success and bringing Jena to the fore.
They found her body.
Her uncle verified that it.
May she rest in peace.
Here’s the link to MsNbc news coverage posted this afternoon:

*sighs…*
Thanks for letting me know.
Possible good news.
Associated press jumped the gun. Apparently the body hasn’t been confirmed as Nailah as earlier reported.
Here’s the link that states AP didn’t report factually:
