Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens

Mad TV, Lipstick Jungle, My Own Worst Enemy and Pushing Daisies are all as good as gone.
Brad Trechak surmises that “The sudden revitalization of SNL’s popularity was probably the final nail in that coffin”.
Saturday Night Live has had a good political run the last year; but basically since the end of the Phil Hartman era, SNL has been pretty much lame, and I prefer Mad TV. Though I don’t sit around on Saturday nights watch much of either, even when I’m not out; and apparently neither do a whole lot of other people unless Sarah Palin is being parodied.

NBC’s cancellations have been widely reported. Robert Seidman says:
Mere days ago I talked trash about NBC for promoting My Own Worst Enemy as “Christian Slater in the role everyone is talking about” and dubbing it the “new hit show”. Then I ragged on NBC again the next morning when the woeful numbers for Enemy came out.
Lipstick Jungle is no surprise at all. Effectively in that case, moving it to Fridays was the same as saying, “when your shows are through, so are you”, but My Own Worst Enemy surprises me a bit. NBC was obviously very enamored with the show and promoted it fairly heavily.
While MOWE doesn’t look so awful in our Renew/Cancel Index, it’s one of those deals where a combination of events was in play. One, NBC has pretty woeful numbers, and MOWE did better in its early airings and has steadily dropped. The same could be said for its lead in, Heroes, but Heroes still at least pulls numbers in the demographics.
No word yet on whether the shows will be yanked from the schedule or merely play out the existing episodes.
My Own Worst Enemy is the second program to fall that I called out as a bad ideal for a show before the season started; along with Do Not Disturb.
As far as Lipstick Jungle, I guess Sex In The City 2 didn’t work out quite as well for author Candace Bushnell. Ya know, maybe try something different.

Pushing Daisies is a show I’ve never seen. I can’t even recall hardly ever seeing a commercial for it(shows how much time I don’t spend on ABC). But apparently Kona Gallagher did, and she (or maybe he, I don’t know) is pissed, so I’ll let her tell you about it:
“Look, this isn’t my first time at the rodeo. I knew going into this last year, that the chances of a quirky fairy tale about death having long-term success were slim-to-none. I’ve seen the signs; I’ve known that this day was going to come. That doesn’t mean that I couldn’t hope that ABC would decide to keep Pushing Daisies; my favorite new show from last season. I’ve held out hope, and today, that hope was dashed. What’s worse, is I can’t even focus all of my anger on ABC; some of it is pointed directly at Daisies creator, Bryan Fuller.
I’m trying to be mature and diplomatic about this, but seriously: Bryan Fuller can suck it…”
