Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens

Then Join the Virtual March.
The Afrosphere Jena 6 Coalition is again using the world wide web to help make activism real. The Ultraviolet Underground is command central on this one.
The Virtual March is where you can use your blog, or start a post in a message board community, where you post a picture of yourself holding free Jena 6 signs or other messages of support and encouragement to the young men and the marches going down to help make a stand; as demonstrated at the bottom of this post.
You can add to that from where you are by letting the world know “who you wit”. We all have to raise our voices; this is just another way to do that.
The Press Release for the Virtual March is here: www.pr.com/press-release/52561
“An Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere” MLK, Jr.

Yobachi –> it is good to see you & UltraViolet keeping the drumbeats going with the press and others on this issue. Well done…
peace, Villager
I am there with you in spirit. Unfortunately, given my own finances, even a day away is impossible.
However, make a statement that resonates across the country, and justice will be served for those boys.
My prayers are with them.
With you in spirit, Brother Yobachi. Peace.

Bloggers inspire new civil rights wave

Ladies & gentelman,
First, let me say that I am caucasion, the best friend of a black man, a father, a professional, and a husband. Like you, I am concerned about issues of injustice. However, I find it ironic that African-Americans, from all over the U.S. will leave thier families, thier jobs, and thier own communities, in order to march in a small Louisiana town and demand justice for 6 youths. MEANWHILE, the crime in African-American neighborhoods is sky-rocketing. MEANWHILE, black on black crime is ramped. MEANWHILE, the police patrolling and attempting to protect blacks in their own neighborhood cannot get ANY information concerning crimes because of the “Hush, don’t rat out your brother” mentality. How ironic is it that people will use all of their resources to travel such a long distance for “justice”, yet will not lift a finger in thier own community! I find it not only ironic, but also somewhat (if it were not so sad) amussing to see this mass movement of people. Ladies and Genteman, I challenge you: Move in force and demand justice in your OWN BACK YARDS. THEN, your plight for justice may be taken seriously by the nation who are watching. I share the same opinion as millions of concerned Americans. We are concerned for justice EVERYWHERE, not just in Jena, louisiana. Take a good look around your own neighborhood before you board the busses for Jena. Could your OWN community use your efforts much more than Jena? I bet so.

I think my comment disappeared…
I’ll try again.
I came across a Yobachi tribute, Not sure if you saw it:

^_^
Same sentiments Yobachi. This is one of those times if you can get there, get there. Unfortunately I cannot, but my prayers and spirit are with them. I’ve been watching CNN, a lot of us made the trip and are definitely having an impact.
Why would 6 guys allmost kill another guy without remorse? What should the punishment be? This is crazy! They tried to kill that boy, 6 of them on 1! Beating him after he was allready passed out. They sent this boy to the hospital. What the hell? Do you want our races to fight for ever. Everytime a black kid gets himself in trouble he ends up the “victim” and theres a march. Cant we all just get along? Stop attacking and killing each other?
This has NOTHING to do with civil rights! Its illigal to allmost kill somebody!
If you don’t get it Sam, you probably never will.
It’s easy for some folks to put blinders on, because they haven’t been the targets of systematic racism.
The Black community has nothing to explain to anyone who refuses to acknowledge the sabotage that has contributed to the degradation of the black community systematically.
Plain and simple.
If you are unwilling to at least be honest about the lengths that have been taken to undermine the progress of people of color (putting it mildly), we cannot have balanced conversation.
It is time to look in the mirror, and admit why solidarity in the Black community is troubling to you.
Oh and by the way, your ‘victim’, was released from the hospital and went to a ring ceremony the same night. No one tried to kill him, despite his part in hanging a noose from a tree which was most certainly a death threat towards the black students who were ‘warned’ for sitting beneath a whites only tree’.
If you don’t get that you’re part of the problem Sam.
Didnt know about the noose. What they did was wrong, but they are getting a bum rap. ok? Now as far as “solidarity in the Black community is troubling to you”(PURPLE ZOE) Thats crap. Belive me Im far from being a biggot. Its not black white, its have/have-nots that hold people back. Thats one thing I dont feel like black people understand. Im not from a wealthy family and neither are most white people for that matter. Life is hard for whoever doesnt have a lot of money, thats it. When I hear that “America doesnt care about black people” it kills me, the sad fact is, is your right it doesnt, but its not because of your color, its because most black people dont have lots of money just like MOST white people that this country doesnt give a damn about either.
Sam,
Power and profit is at the root of systematic racism, but don’t forget who most of the resources were taken from, leaving many cultures ‘of color’ impoverished. Without Systematic racism, most of the wealth hoarded by these governments could not have been collected. The blood of innocents is smeared all over this country as it is in many others that have suffered at the hands of colonization.
The seeds of discord have been sown through the vehicle of racism so the upper 1% could watch the ‘races’ go at it, and benefit from the lack of unity. Those who wanted to receive ‘favor’ played the superiority game, and ratted out those who were categorized as ‘inferior’.
Seems old habits die hard…
By setting up a system where the idea of superiority and inferiority are the gauge for justifying greed and deceit, a small percentage could prosper while the many suffered.
I don’t understand how without researching the entirety of the things you jumped up to say this wasn’t about civil rights.
How is it you didn’t know about the noose involved in the Jena 6 case? It was the catalyst.
Neither you or the other poster who came through to oppose Jena 6 left your websites so I don’t know how seriously I can take either of your comments. It also looked like you posted at the same time, but maybe it’s just a glitch in the email feed for the comments…
I’m not so much interested in having a provocative conversation, if the injustices involved in this case aren’t going to be taken seriously enough for the facts to be researched before an opinion is formed and spoken.
Nonetheless, Peace be upon you.

Alonzo,
You have your perspective, but without living as a person of color and experiencing the caustic nature of racism or at least truly versing yourself in the history of oppression, debased social conditioning (which in large part contributed to self-hatred and lack of unity in the Black community—let’s not act like psychological wounds don’t become generational habits—and let’s certainly not act like the very root of self-hatred in the Black community didn’t come from the systematic racism that has disenfranchised people of color and continuously pushed the idea of glorified white-skin) and genocide, you simply have no idea how serious systematic racism is.
Your roots were not tampered with. You were not denied your customs or your language most more than likely.
While there is truth that individual struggle is individual struggle anyway you slice it, it is impossible to be truly honest and diminish the struggle of Black people (or people of color in general).
We could go on forever about this. If you truly believe Blacks have not continued to be treated as second class citizens to an unacceptable degree, nothing anyone can say will be allowed into your subjective reality.
I’m really not interested in having anyone add insult to injury in light of what the Jena 6 have been subjected to, and what has happened recently to Megan Williams who was tortured and raped repeatedly by her white kidnappers (men and women), who made her eat animal feces, cut into her body, and told her they were doing it because she was black (I am declining to use the ‘n’ word so they are loosely quoted). It doesn’t end there though. The courts in West Virginia chose to do a background check on the rape and torture victim Megan, and while she was trying to heal psychologically and physically from wounds that are beyond comprehension, they threw her in jail for writing a bad check in the past.
Oh and I shouldn’t neglect to mention that the FBI decided they wouldn’t call it a hate crime.
These incidents are not isolated, but they have become visible for a reason and I, along with others I am sure would appreciate it if at the very least, the pain the black community feels to see these kinds of things STILL happening would be respected.
You’ve obviously come here to insult. I don’t accept. I doubt anyone else will either.
Interesting that you bravely posted your comment but left no link to your website.
You didn’t come here to communicate. You came here to make yourself feel better by pointing the finger in a direction that doesn’t resemble you and your ancestors.
Supremacist programming riddles your post.
Your depiction of the Black community is a very biggoted one, but I’m sure you’re aware of that.
My conversation with you ends here, there’s truly nothing further to say.
Peace be upon you, Alonzo
Good response Zoe, you saved me a lot of typing. How was he almost killed but could go out to social events the same night. What a laugh.
And the ideal that they he did nothing, and they all got together and just jumped him out the blue is absolutely ridiculous. He was standing with the known noose hangers, making racial taunts.
I’ve seen plenty of people get their ass whooped at school, including getting stomped; and they don’t get decades worth of charges.
We must remain United when it come too getting justice for our black youth. We have to teach them early on in life that we live in a prejudice society. The biggest threat to a white society is a Black Man with a education. Learn as much as you can about who you are. Know that you are of great people. Our heritage is rich in mind, body, and spirit. We have shown that we can become successful in any field that we chose. Who would of thought that a black man would be the top Golfer in the World. And two black sister would be on top in Tennis? Ever wonder why they hate rap music so much> Cause they can’t say they started it. Russel Simmons, Jay Z, Fifty Cents, just to name a few are some of the wealthiest Man in the Rap Game. And what does money equal? POWER So, I say all of that to say this, If we remain United in whatever the cause We will not Fall. Never divide the vote stay together on every issue. We can not leave it up to others the fight is ours.
Thanks Yobachi.
The truth is the truth no matter who tries to deny it or how hard. Black folks and white folks alike see the miscarriage of justice in this case.
Those who are uncomfortable with it are either under-informed, misinformed, biggots with blinders on or biggots with blatant intent to be what they are.
