Obama Plays Patty Cakes While Clinton Punches Him In The Face

March 5th, 2008

A second chance to knock Clinton out, and clearly Obama didn’t learn from the first opportunity he let it slip through his hands in New Hampshire.

Having her on the ropes again, he backed off. He dropped the pass in the end-zone that would have effectively put the game away.

Obama vs Clinton

Alright, enough of my sports metaphors.

The Obama camp spinning that this isn’t a moment shift is just silly. Even Stevie Wonder can see the moment changing.

You could see what some might see as softness in last week’s Ohio Debate, and Obama while at times being masterfully unflappable, he never responds with any forcefulness. She punches and he plays patty cake with her. It actually started the Saturday before when she accused him of sending out false mailers, when in fact the only thing false was her accusation; and he responds lightly and timidly.

You can forcefully and assertively respond to and even go on the offensive against your opponent without getting down in the dirt, being nasty, and throwing blows below the belt (okay, one more sports metaphor) but what you can’t do is be soft and be quiet when they’re constantly coming after you.

For one, that stuff starts to stick. Secondly, she looks like the tough fighter, and you look like the skinny nice guy who isn’t ready to battle. LEARN FROM JOHN KERRY! You can’t smile or just ignore it. Turn the other cheek doesn’t really work in American politics. Kerry thought you could and he looked like a little sissy boy.

She’s won Ohio, and she didn’t just win, she won big (by 16 10 points) which bolsters the likelihood of winning the similar neighboring state of Pennsylvania, the last big state left. The establishment wants to give it to her anyway. This freezes superdelegates who were ready to back out of her campaign, and it’s going to come down to them to decide the nomination, as it looks like neither Clinton nor Obama will be able to clinch the nomination in the primaries.

You had the chance to take her out, and you didn’t close; this is not good brother. The good news, the delegate count is still on his side, but one cannot rest on their laurels.

No matter how far you get up at a moment in time, you’re still the challenger for the belt; you can’t win a decision, you have to at least TKO.

Edited to add: at 11:47 pm central time, Hillary Clinton called the winner in Texas by MSNBC, though Obama may still win the delegate count form what I understand. The later point doesn’t change at all that she’s gotten the moment and survived what could have been a knock out. Plus it’s already announced that she’s been invited on every national morning show tomorrow. She’s taken the media from him in the last week, starting from when he sat there and didn’t respond to her whinning in the Ohio debate.

I was watching the BBC take on the voting, and although Obama outspent Clinton 4-1 in Ohio and Texas the knockout blow in traditional Clinton country was missed. Now we will see when all the delegates are counted, Obama will still have a majority of the delegates, and then comes the big TEST … will the superdelegates side with the popular vote winner Obama or Clinton (the Party Machine hack)(by the way this result for Obama was expected, and his good showing guarantees a delegate majority).

Bro you know how those crackers are in Texas and Ohio is also loaded with tons of redneck laid off factory workers.

    Hello from the O~State.

It is late and I need to get to bed. I will be in a better position to comment.

Sorry~tomorrow. But you have some raised some interesting points.

I’m just getting home and haven’t paid attention to the primaries today. Obama should have never approached the situation with kid gloves.

I just hope the final outcome results in someone who can pounce on McCain. But I don’t want to sit around for another Clinton Administration either.

Now that I have had some rest~I can comment properly.

I cannot say that the debate had major impact on Ohio attitudes about Obama or Clinton.

While NAFTA is a major issue in sections of the state~I cannot honestly say it is major in the section where I live. We knew going in that it was going to be so rough and tough in this part of the midwest. I have heard on the news that there was two bomb threats at polling places located in parts of the state. That is the first time that I have heard any threats of violence during the primary race period. Plus that the issue of the voting process will be up for review. But she need not be too happy with the win. I am still not convienced that she is the right one to lead the ticket.

Obama carried the county that I live in. I did not expect him to do well in the southern portion of Ohio nor in sectors of the northern part of the state.

Bill Clinton was heckled in Ohio among the base of voters that she supposedly appealed to. I believe that a newscaster called it correctly a couple of weeks ago when he said, it would be hard sell here period for both of them.

But the final analysis of the vote only gives her 10%. So she did not swoop all of the delegates. We worked the lead down and the experience that came with the work was well worth the effort. I have had a great political experience among the people of my community. I am going to writing about that aspect of the stump later on this week.

It is a done deal here. But I made a personal commitment to back Obama all the way to the floor of the DNC. So let the stump continue!

EuroYank, having the delegate lead is beside the point because he can’t clinch the nomination. Therefore you leave the decision of who the nominee is in the hands of the party bosses who are mostly apt to want to give it to Clinton. They may not do that because of pressure, but that’s what they want to do.

The thing is, if he would put her away when he’s had the chance, then he doesn’t take the chance that the party bosses can steal it from him. He’s leaving the door open for some of the most skilled political tricksters in modern politics, the Clintons; giving them another chance to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

It is sad that ths Brother annot even be true to his ownself anwin the election, his wife has been talked abou for telling the truth. I am starting to belieave that all this talk of being equal is make belieave. This Man has to be ashamed of his name? If we all knew our true names they would sound a lot like OBAMA and ANON or some other beautiful African name. I think in some strange way we are selling out our culture and heritage in order to fel equal , Is it WORTH it? I know I do not write as well a some do, but think of what I am saying. This Wonderful Black Man canot vebe his own self, he has to be what others say he should be. eople dont want to hear te TRUTH.

I agree that it seems that Obama needs to be more forceful with Clinton but he has to be very careful. Even though she is a PITBULL, she is still a woman. If he hits her too hard and too far below the belt she will try to turn soft. (You know how they do) Then all of a sudden the BIG BLACK MAN, hurt her feeling tactic will be used. Everyone will be tripping over themselves to hand her a tissue. I think with him playing clean and fair my seem like lying down but he ends up looking like the good guy. Everyone knows the Clinton’s past,(although I wouldn’t mind SOMBODY sending out a little reminder memo of important point) and her in her underhanded desperation I think she will extinguish herself.

Maybe if you learned how to spell English you would feel more equal being an American not an African!

I’m a bit upset, one part of me is glad he took the noble approach, but the other part of me is mad he didn’t attack back. The reason Clinton has been behind is because she tried to play nicer than what she is use to, when she saw that is wasn’t working, she brought out the teeth. She straddled the line of morality and turned the media against Obama. She played her damsel in distress routine and they all came a runnin’, which makes me mad. She cries foul and sexism, but employs those very tactics to garnish sympathy votes. If she had all this experience, why didn’t she run in 2004.

Did you steal my metaphor? If not great minds think alike.

  12. D. Yobachi Boswell on March 5th, 2008 8:21 pm | link

Mrs G., the thing is he can do it with being nasty. He needs to do more than just sit there and give timid response or no response at all. You can forcefully reply and look strong instead of looking like a punching bag, without getting down in the dirt; especially with Hillary Clinton because there’s so much there to legitimately go after.

“she tried to play nicer than what she is use to, when she saw that is wasn’t working, she brought out the teeth.”

I mean you’d think grown people with Ivy League educations would learn. When Hillary tried to play above the fray before the primaries, she lost her huge lead. So then Obama won one Caucus and did the same thing in New Hampshire and let her get back into the game. You’d think he’d have discerned a pattern by now. Doesn’t work!

As far as stealing your metaphor, I’m not sure when you used it, so I guess great minds think alike :D

Yep OG, I talked about what we have to give up for the big seat, and how no one wants to talk about it.

Some people actually believe this is some kind of Black revolution OR MOVEMENT - HA HA HA HA! So white people get to vote on the movement.

LOL! Man, I’m scared for my folks cause they aren’t even being serious or realistic in my facets of this.

Anyways, here’s the post where I addrss that sort of thing, which you’ve probably already seen: “Why a Barack Obama Presidency May Be More Bad Than Good For Black People - www.blackperspective.net/index.php/why-a-barack-obama-presidency-may-be-more-bad-than-good-for-black-people

…there wasn’t anything in your post
that wasn’t on point.Obama needs to realize
that politics is a very, very dirty game.
He can’t try to be the choirboy and think
Hilliary is going to act like Mother Teresa.
All I can say to Obama is;concede the race
or start swinging back(with heavy punches!).

  15. MarvalusOne on March 6th, 2008 2:38 am | link

Obama comes out today saying he’s going to start laying on the criticism…I need to see some heavy gut punching or this broad is going to jump right over his head…

You are right on point with this one, Yobachi…right on point…daggone it, buck up, Barack!

It’s great to get into these discussions about how he should fight back and what he should or shouldn’t do to Hillary Clinton. But I can’t imagine what kind of pressure Obama is under to make sure that white people don’t see him as “O.J. Simpson 2″ if he beats her ass. Look what happened just by her crying in New Hampshire. The reality is that he’s still a black man in extraordinary circumstances politically and we can all speculate what he should or shouldn’t do but I’m sure he knows. White folk can flip on you in a matter of seconds and make you Public Enemy Number One if they so choose. He’s on a slippery slope and that’s all there is to it.

  18. EuroYank on March 6th, 2008 5:14 pm | link

Yobachi - so tell us how Obama will do things differently from Clinton if elected. Does he owe favors to different interests? Does his financial support come from different interest? Is he more black than white? Will your people be better off? Do you feel closer to him? What are the advantages you see for your people?

  19. MorganLighter on March 7th, 2008 3:09 am | link

Here’s the deal. If Hillary can’t take the punches when she’s dealing with a fellow democrat - then WTF is she going to do when republicans, foreign heads of state, and malcontents take a shot at her. JHChrist - this isn’t a roll in the Jello, this is war. And if Barack doesn’t cut her off at the knees when she starts ‘crying’ and saying that she’s so close to God (check it out on The Drudge Report) and all this other self effacing mumbo-jumbo crap, then we’ll be welcoming John McCain as our next president. EuroYank - Right on. Is Barack’s plan for the future that much different than Hillarys’?
