Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
July 10th, 2008
The Afrosphere Action Coalition, of which I am a co-founder and a coordinator, just hosted a confrence call between bloggers and Team Darfur, “an international coalition of athletes committed to raising awareness about and bringing an end to the crisis in Darfur, Sudan.”
We were joined by Olympic Speedskating gold medalist Joey Cheek, of Team Darfur, to discuss the crissis in Darfur, and what regular people can do to bring relief to this situation.

We will soon be sending out a press release about this event; along with a podcast of the discussion, and possibly a video to go along with it.
First I want to thank Martha Heinemann Bixby, executive director of Team Darfur, for working with me to coordinate this call with Mr. Cheek.
I want to thank my co-coordinator Zoe at purplezoe.blogspot.com/ for her help in getting this off; as well as all of those who called-in and commented and participate in this event.
Please Sign the pledge for the “Switch Over”; which is a campiagn to let coporations know you will switch off the Olympic commercials, in order to pressure coporations to use their power to lean on China to use it’s signifigant leverage with Sudan.
Also check out two blogs that are friends of BlackPerspective.net who follow the issue of Darfur and humanitarinism:

You can also read about Darfur, China and the Olympics for more undestanding of the particular role China and the Olympics play.

No doubt Cooper.
Actually, the podcast will be availiable to for anyone to paste into their own post or put on the sidebar of their blog; or on any website.
So you, if you like, you can do your own post on it with the podcast (and video if we do one) imbedded.
Excellent work in organizing this event…
