Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
August 30th, 2008
John’s just funn’in with us, right? April fools in August. It’s all a joke. He’s going to come out on stage with Ashton Kutcher today, and the real vice presidential pick; as Kutcher tells us we’ve been punked and then yells…
…Buuuuuuurn!

We are now exploring the depths of John McCains hypocrisy, lack of principle, and willingness to proffer any gimmick that he thinks might get him elected (just like with the gas tax holiday, and drilling offshore).
Every McCain attack for why Obama should not be president, applies to Sarah Palin in spades.
McCain says Obama’s not ready to be president because of his short time in Washington. Well Obama has 400% more time in national politics than Palin who has ZERO!
He says Obama is not fit to be commander and chief because he doesn’t have enough foreign policy experience; but he has 4 times more experience than Palin does there as well, who again has ZERO experience!
So then they go to she’s a Governor with executive experience; but for less than two years. She hasn’t even finished a term of a state that barely has any population. Obama has 4 times more state government experience than she does; plus he has national and international experience to add to it, of which Palin has NONE. So if he’s not ready, how the hell can she be ready?

While McCain claims he’d rather win a war than win an election, and conversely says Obama wouldn’t; and while the sign on the podium at the rally said “Country First”; John McCain clearly and undoubtedly put politics first.
If he would be president, he’d would be 72 with cancer, and a person a few months removed from being the mayor of a town of 9,000 who has no national nor international experience would be a heartbeat away from being president.
John McCain did not think of the well being of his country at all with this pick.
Mrs. Palin is an impressive woman, and was building a resume’ which might have made her a person viable for this position in some time; but as of yet their is no argument that anybody could make that she’s the next most qualified person in the republican party (or even close to it) to be president.
This is tokenism to try to poach disaffected female Hillary voters; while at the same time bring the conservative base home.. Even Geraldine Ferraro, who admits she was picked for token reasons, had 6 times more national experience at the time that she was tapped than Palin does. If it was Kay Bailey Hutchison, we could believe he was picking based on merit, but alas Palin is no Hutchison.
This is all about politics and nothing else.
While Obama partially went against part of his brand of new people being needed in Washington by picking Biden; he nonetheless choose someone that no one could argue against the fact that he’s ready to step into the oval office on day one; from a technocratic standpoint, whether you agree with his positions or not.
Can anyone say that about Governor Palin, who is dwarfed in experience even by George W. Bush at the time he took office?
Edited to add: Scholars question Palin credentials
- ““I think she is the most inexperienced person on a major party ticket in modern history,” said presidential historian Matthew Dallek.”

I believe that McCain choosing Palin is going to back fire. Her statements in reference to HRC and Ferraro yesterday were insulting. She is not fit to wear a pantsuit much less carry one. Say what you will about HRC she was pro woman in all things and that cannot be said of the colluder Palin. Women are not stupid, and we see this pick for exactly what it is. One vagina cannot substitute for another.
One of the things that I find particularly galling about this entire episode is the way that feminists while decrying Palins politics have run to her defense. While I certainly agree that Palin should be criticized on her political stances rather than her gender I cannot help but take note that such defense was never mounted for Michelle Obama. She is twice the woman that Palin is and yet there is no organized response to the sexism and racism that Obama continues to face by the media. Palin has been on the world stage for less than forty-eight hours and yet feminists have begun to organize against the attacks she faces. This election has really driven home the fissures in feminism. It seems that you count only if you are white and this evidenced by the fact that they defend the clearly anti-feminist Palin and are silent about Michelle who regularly articulates feminist theory in her speeches.
There’s more to this than meets the eye. This woman has “vetted” since as early as August 2007 - maybe even earlier. As I said today over at SJP’s Somthing is rotten in Denmark - or should I say Alaska. We need to be on this like white on rice.
I believe Moe of the Three Stooges said it best:
Zip…
Boom…
Cuckoo!
Why on earth did he pick Tina Fey as a running mate ? This is Bush/qyayle all over again.
LOL - hell, qyayle was highly qualified compared to her.
I think it’s spelled “Quayle”. Bad spelling was his thing back in the day. This is a banner year for the GOP. They have now locked up the eskimo vote. Along with his unqualified running mate, McCain now has to contend with Hurricane Gustav. Is that karma or what ? Their big convention is now disrupted.
I wrote an post on BlogHer on this. I think the Republicans win unless we do what Obama has done, and that is basically no real commentary for or against this women. The debates will follow. She will show her stuff if she has any.
We need to be concentrating on McCain he is going to be the President, and it’s his policies we have to take apart. The attacks on this women will anger the same type of people who the Dems (all over the blogesphere) angered last time with their attacks on religion.
On of my readers said it best really. The Dems have been given a great hand (in Obama). They have to play that hand not he hand the Republicans are giving them to play. They need to ignore this choice and see how itplays out while starting to focus on McCain, right now.
Cooper I thought about what you said the last couple of days, and while I think it might be smart to lay off the daughter pregnacy thing for sending sympathetic female voters who already want an excuse to jump ship, McCains way, other than that i can’t agree with laying off.
This pick and all it’s deficincies and politics is part and parcle to how John McCain operates and makes policy. I mean what religious voters is talking about Palin going to scare off that are not already set against Obama? If Dems ever want to win the white hose they better learn how to get a back bone, take on republicans, and strongly call them on their bullshit. Running away from this blantant red meat would be another case of weak Democrats running from another fight. It didn’t work for John Kerry 4 years ago in an election he otherwise would have won.
I agree. What the democrats need is their own version of Karl Rove and Lee Atwater that will take parts of a campaign into the sewer if need be. When democrats try to stay above it they lose. Palins daughter’s pregnancy, her boyfriends redneck myspace page and everything else should be on the table. Because we all know that if it were Obama’s daughters , the decline of morals in America would be the republican rights focus. And the word ” bastard” would be getting airplay. Republicans were praying that it rain on the democrats convention and yet Gustav hurt them.
SJustice, it’s not even about going down in the sewer. The Democrats run away from fighting and taking it to the republicans on facts and legitimate issues.
They won’t even stand up for themselves against scurrilous attacks half the time.
Excuse my language but it’s the most poignant way to put it - the American people simply don’t want a pussy-ass president. That’s why Dukakus and Kerry were never president, and that’s just about the only reason.
Being pussy might play well to a large faction of the hippie democratic left; but it doesn’t play well to most of America. And the hippies-esq and hippie-lite folks on the left may not like that, but they can go with what they think is wonderful, or finally play to win.
Why don’t the Democrats just nominate Dennis Kucinch if they’re going to go soft; at least he looks the part of a weakling if that’s the way they’re going to go.
The one thing I can say about the Clinton’s is at least they fought for theirs.
