Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
August 3rd, 2007
There are two Black films in theatres right now. Tom Joyner apparently thinks that Who’s Your Caddy is one worth seeing. I like Tom, but with all do respect – Hell no!
Just what we need - another half-baked, recycled, “cool young blacks, clowning the cagey old white people”, In The House/Bulworth on a golf course, Hip Hop bastardized coonery of a so-called movie.
Yo, 3000; get your Boi. I thought Outkast was supposed to be the cutting edge creative Kats. How you go from Idlewild to this?
Apparently the viewing public at least somewhat shares in my dismay, as this rehashing of the same lame old story line only garnished 10th place in its’ opening weekend.
Enough of the Hollywood Shufflin. Luckily there’s a better film in the world of black cinema in theatres that we can be proud of. Enter –Talk To Me
Talk To Me is a film about Petey Greene who was a no hold’s bar, tell it like it is, Radio Talk DJ in D.C. in the late 60s and 70s. Greene is played by Don Cheadle, and the film also stars Cedric The Entertainer and Mike Epps. It was directed by Kasi Lemmons, writer and director of Eve’s Bayou. Check out Roger Ebert’s review of the film. If it looks interesting to you, I hope you’ll support it in the movie theatres. We vote for what kinds of films are made with our dollars. That’s all Hollywood cares about.
To find the movie playing in your town, go here, and enter your zip code.

Talk To Me is only out in limited release. I thought it would have broaden by now, but for some reason that hasn’t happened yet. It’s only in a measly 115 theaters, as opposed as the bamboozled creation that is Who’s Your Caddy being in over a thousand theatres. It’s done quite well to be in so few theaters, making it all the more puzzling why it’s not in wider release.

I can’t wait to see this. I’m not the movie buff you are so it’s rare when i’m excited to see one but this has been on my list since i saw the preview months ago.
You better go see it soon, it’s not in many theatre’s across the country, and they haven’t expaneded it much (only by 37 theatre’s) like they said they would.
