Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
February 25th, 2008
The barbs from the two sides have gotten increasingly sharper over the last 3 days. Lets examine both fronts.
On Saturday Cliton was “handed” two mailers, at a rally; that were from the Obama camp, being sent to Ohio voters.
One is nothing new, it’s the same healthcare mailer that led to Clinton surrogate, Len Nichols, comparing Obama to Nazis in a conference call set up by the Clinton campaign on Febuary 1st. It all kind of reminds me of Godwin’s Rule of Nazi Analogies . I guess that applies to the longer a political campaign goes, as well as to the longer an internet debate goes.

The other mailer regarded a NAFTA criticism.
It goes like this. Hillary Clinton campaigned for NAFTA as First Lady; she claims her years as First Lady as part of her 35 years of experience that make her superior and ready to lead on day one; her husband signed the NAFTA she supported; NAFTA took away a lot of American manufacturing jobs, which blue color Ohio unionist don’t like; the Obama mailer quoted and cited Newsday as saying Clinton still thought NAFTA was “a boon” as of her 2006 Senatorial campaign; that citation was correct, Newsday did say that and admits it.
You can see pictures of all three pages of the mailer here. They may be hard to read on that website, but if you save them to your computer as jpegs and open them up there, they’re very clear. The words “a boon” are in quotes on the cover page as they should be, being that they are not the campaign’s words, but Newsday’s. Then after making the statement that Clinton thought NAFTA was “a boon” it tells you to look inside for details.
Inside, the full sentence by Newsday is quoted as a full sentence, and is cited to Newsday. The way the sentence reads there is no doubt possible that a third person is speaking in the quote and not Hillary herself. So last week Barack was called a plagiarizer for saying “just words” in a rhetorical argument that the person who used it before told him to use, because he didn’t’ cite that person. This week he specifically cited his source, and they still cry foul.
Newsday, for its part is shucking and jiving on the issue. You can read Newsday’s fork tongued “analysis”, where they waffle saying “The word [boon] was our characterization of how we best understood her position on NAFTA, based on a review of past stories and her public statements”…“Obama’s use of the citation in this way does strike us as misleading.”…“That said, we should have been clearer”.
All Obama did was quote Newsday and say Newsday said it. Newsday did say it, and they admit they said it; so what’s misleading? Newsday is trying to blame Obama for their sloppy ass “journalism” instead of taking repsonsibility.
Stop shilling for a candidate Newsday. At least my blog is admittedly my partisan views.
Obama stood behind the mailer on Sunday saying “Let’s be clear: It was her husband who got NAFTA passed. In her own book, Senator Clinton called NAFTA one of ‘Bill’s successes’ and ‘legislative victories,’ Obama said, referring to her memoir, Living History;” according to The Chicago Tribune
The other issue, The Obama Picture
The Drudge Report today reported on a leaked internal email within the Clinton campaign of Obama Dressed in Muslim garb over his Kakis and polo shirt while in Somali on a five country visit; with the emailer “complaining that if Clinton had dressed similarly to Obama, the picture would have made a news magazine cover story.”
Oh really, you mean like this:

Funny, I haven’t been seeing this picture around in the media. I guess the Clinton staffer’s assertion is not true, like much of the rhetoric from the Clinton Campaign
David Plouffe of the Obama camp called the email “shameful, offensive fear-mongering.”
In her excoriation of Obama on Saturday over the mailers, Clinton asked “since when do democrats attack democrats on universal healthcare”? Obama answered back in Akron on Sunday saying “Well, when she started to say I was against universal health care, which she does every single day.”
The Clinton campaign daily continues to craft “the biggest fairy tales that I’ve ever heard”; well, since the last time the Clinton’s were in office with rhetorical gems such as whether you did something or not “depends on what the meaning of the word is, is”.

Great post! Great picture of Billary. I love it!
Thanks, I didn’t have to do much but bring stuff togehter. Hillary and CO. did all the wwork for me.
Yobachi, I’m glad you’re shining some light into these dirty dealings of the Clintons.
First of all, Hillary supported NAFTA and its passage is part of the “experience” for which Hillary claims credit, so there’s no point in her trying to run away from NAFTA now.
Back in 1992, when Clinton was running for president, he acknoweldged that he would try to push NAFTA into law. People on the Left hated it, but we understood that a pro-business stance was part of the price of electing a Democratic Administration at the time, since the allegation of anti-business had played such a strong role in electing Ronald Reagan over Jimmy Carter, and then causing the defeat of Democratic presidential candidates Walter Mondale and Mike Dukakis.
So, back then everyone who supported labor hated NAFTA, but we took Bill Clinton’s word for it that supporting NAFTA was the only way to elect a Democratic president and get rid of George H.W. Bush (the father).
Well, now it’s sixteen years later and Hillary Clinton seems to be trying to deny that the Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law. She’s blowing smoke, she hasn’t got a case, and she should just admit that she’s partly responsible for the passage of NAFTA and try to explain why. Bill Clinton won office in spite of his support for NAFTA, so why is Hillary so sure she can’t explain her support for trade agreements in a way that the public will accept?
In any case, it’s not Barack Obama’s fault that Hillary supported NAFTA, and it certainly is a completely legitimate issues for him to raise right now. Union voters are not stupid and they will not be confused by Hillary’s argument that she didn’t use the word “boon” and instead used a phrase like “we’re so very proud of the passage of NAFTA” or whatever she said at the time.
If Clinton can’t win the nomination without having a staffer or surrogate call Obama a NAZI, then she obviously doesn’t deserve the nomination at all.
Meanwhile, Hillary is accusing Obama of misrepresenting her health care plan. The fact is that many people, including myself, prefer a single-payer health plan and we believe that compelling poor people to purchase insurance plans that they can’t afford is a very stupid idea.
Why not just build or buy medical clinics and hospitals and provide services to the poor without requesting compensation, or have the government pay for the services that are provided to the poor, without using avaricious insurance companies as middle men? That’s what they do in France, Belgium, Germany, Mexico, Canada, Cuba and Brazil.
What is so good about insurance companies (other than the 30% overhead for administrative costs) that compels us to continue paying them to do what the government could do much better?
Oh, yeah, every Government program has to be a leaky bucket from which gold constantly poors into the pockets of the wealthy. Well, you know I’m just sick and tired of the rich using our need for medical care as an excuse for them to pick our pockets!
I understand that Clinton can’t simply announce that the insurance companies are out of a job. Nonetheless, the part of her insurance program that Obama is criticizing really does suck just as much as Obama says it does, because it leaves greedy insurance companies in charge of our health care. Unfortunately, many of Obama’s proposals suck just as much, and for the very same reason.
Clinton needs to just admit that she IS responsible for NAFTA, and poor people DON’T have the money to buy health insurance. They don’t need insurance. They need health care, which the Government could quite effectively provide, without paying insurance companies for the right to provide medical treatment to the poor.
” why is Hillary so sure she can’t explain her support for trade agreements in a way that the public will accept”
I was at a Hillary rally the night of the South Carolina vote as a free lance writer, and I interviewed a unionist and asked him why Hillary is winning the Union vote even though she campaigned for NAFTA, and he said well its because they wanted to see international workers wages raised (particularly Mexicans union workers) so that it will push up all wages.
So she could finagle something along those lines. It wouldn’t move me, I was against NAFTA at the time though I was for the Clintons; and being 14 maybe I didn’t realize they were running on this at the time; but it was one of the first things that started turning me off about them once they got into the white house.
That picture of Obama in his traditional dress is just the tip of the iceberg of the news that has been circulating the internet about Obama and his affiliations with Kenya and Islam. A while back I found an article posted on a New York white pride website about stuff relating to his brother being a marxist and Obama being trouble if he ever got to power bla bla bla…I replied to the article (they never put it up, but I wrote about it on my blog) saying that Bush didn’t have any affiliations with “marxists” “communists” or any of the those words they use for fear mongering, but has still managed to do more damage to the world than anyone I can think of.
There’s so much of that news on the net, I’m surprised it took the mainstream media so long to talk about it. I guess Billary was waiting till she got desperate.
I bet, K Owusu
I was just listening to Sean Hannity’s radio show, and he’s fanning the whole anti-Jewish manchurian muslim candidate thing. But he’s too punk to come out and just say, he’s sure to put everything into question form.
