Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens

These are the idiots who run our country, and to an extent, our world.
In a piece called “How about “No Press Secretary Left Behind”? Salon.com recounts the press secretary of the United States admitting she knows nothing about the Cuban Missle Criss.

The White House press secretary and, like, the “Bay of Pigs thing.”

Dec. 10, 2007 | At a White House press briefing on Oct. 26, a reporter asked Dana Perino about Vladimir Putin’s suggestion that a U.S. plan to base parts of a missile shield in Europe was similar to the events that led to the Cuban missile crisis.
Perino’s response: “Well, I think that the historical comparison is not — does not exactly work. What I can say is what President Putin went on to say, which is that the president and President Putin have said that we can work together on this.”
When a second reporter asked whether Putin’s comparison to the Cuban missile crisis had been “helpful,” Perino said: “I think that — look, the president has said that we have a good but complicated and complex relationship with Russia. And the president has a relationship with President Putin, one, that he treats him with a lot of respect, and because of that, he’s able to have very frank and honest discussions with him. And I think the relationship — in a variety of ways, we work well together on many different issues.”
If that sounds like Perino was buying time or filibustering or otherwise talking around the question, well, that’s because she was.
Appearing on NPR’s “Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me” over the weekend, Perino said she “panicked” when she got the Cuban missile crisis question because she wasn’t exactly sure what the Cuban missile crisis was. “I really know nothing about the Cuban missile crisis,” Perino said. “It had to do with Cuba and missiles, I’m pretty sure.”
Perino said she went home that night and asked her husband, “‘Wasn’t that, like, the Bay of Pigs thing?’ And he said, ‘Oh, Dana.’
You can go on to hear her joke and laugh about it on NPR. It starts at the 1:18 mark. When one of the co-host compares her to Doogie Howser, having to go to school while working, she says “it’s like I’m in school every day”. I can’t believe the interviews and audience laughed along with her. This is disturbing, pitiful and dangerous; and to say so is no exaggeration.
It has been shown over and over again that basic qualifications for positions in the Bush administration are totally disregarded in the place of personal loyalty and the candidate’s ideological loyalties.
From Mike Brown being appointed head of FEMA when he had no emergency management experience and had just previously been head of an Arabian Horse Association; to Alberta Gonzalez being appointed attorney general, in a postion clearly too big for him, though he’s never been a prosecutor nor even and investigator; to Julie Myers being appointed to head of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement apparently solely on her relationship to former joints Chief of Staff General Myers and to the former Chief of Staff of her boss Michael Chertoff; and so on.

This incident simply highlights the pervasive practice of putting incompetents into the highest position of our government in the Bush administration.
These such people are the ones who mis-planned the Iraq war, having no knowledge or understanding of the history and ethos of he middle east, and the way invasions work, and so forth; because they don’t even know basic and fundamental national and world history. The Cuban Missile Crisis is a pivotal moment in not just American but world history. How can someone with a political science degree; let alone, someone appointed to a top white house position, not be well endowed in knowledge of it?
It’s mind boggling. Next she’s going to tell us she knows nothing of Water-Gate or the Continental Congress.
On CNN they were asking does the average American know about the Cuban Missile Crisis – I DON’T CARE WHAT THE AVERAGE AMERICAN KNOWS. She’s not the average American, she’s a senior government official who works in the confines of the president; and this is not an isolated instance; such incompetence is typical of this regime.
She’s now trying to play it off as if she was just “axaggerating” but that’s clearly bull. If you read how she filibustered when asked about Putin’s comment during the press confrence, you can see she clearly avoided the actual question and stumbled to give a response; and did not relate the response to the cuban missle crisis because she couldn’t. She babbled and simply gave a stock answer about working with the Russians. She’s trying to claim she exaggerated because certainly she had heard of the Cuban Missle Criss, but knew very little to nothing about it and therefore couldn’t respond in context and in reference to it.
She’s making light of her stupidity on the NPR interview as she is so ignorant that she doesn’t grasp the gravity of her ignorance. Her performance in the actual press confrence confirms her later admission that she paniced when asked the question and didn’t know anything about the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Again, Perino’s is not an isolated incident; just another example of the glib lack of gravitas in the Bush administration.
