Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
April 5th, 2010
Just a couple of months after a monster earthquake devastated Haiti, last week the best documentary franchise, Fontline; aired an examination of the quake on PBS. Not only does the piece look at what happen; but at what’s going to happen to the deforested country with the coming rainy season in May.
Ellen Gay says:
“The Quake” isn’t a simple story, and “Frontline,” which does its best work after some time has passed, must first deal with the quake and its immediate aftermath.
Those images, graphic as they are, may remain all too fresh to many people, but there’s an inevitable sense of helplessness in seeing dead and dying people lying in the streets, or days and weeks after their original injuries, on cots in makeshift tent hospitals without access to adequate food, water or medicine.
