Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens

If you will recall, in the early morning hours of New Years Day 2009 Oscar Grant was shot in the back by police while laying face down, hands out on a train station platform.

It’s been July since my last report: Oscar Grant Police Shooting Update.
In November the trial was moved to Los Angeles in order that Officer Johannes Mehserle be able to receive a fair trail; due to concerns about the level of publicty in the Oakland area.
You can watch this press conference with the Grant’s family lawyer John Burris from January 8th, from insights on the impending trail. He says he doesn’t think the trial will be until May:
Aidge Patterson, who is an activist with the recently formed Los Angeles Coalition for Justice for Oscar Grant, said the goal was of the coalition forming is “to begin the process of creating a unified movement for Grant in Los Angeles,” according to SF BayView
FindLaw states that:
The SFGate reports that Mr. Johntue Caldwell has filed a $5 million dollar lawsuit against BART. The lawsuit centers around federal civil rights that Mr. Caldwell alleges were violated by BART transit officers. Mr. Caldwell claims that he was abused by BART transit police officer Marysol Domenici shortly before his companion Oscar Grant was shot in the back. He claims that the officer forced Mr. Caldwell on the ground, threatened to tase him, pointed the Taser to his face, and used racial slurs to address him. His attorneys claim that he was “mentally and emotionally injured.”
I’m not confident that Grant can get justice, as police are rarely convicted for their abuses: Prosecutors Throwing Cases Against Police - Impact On Okland Transit Case
