Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
September 28th, 2008
I lead voter registration and felon’s rights restoration events this weekend. I have 4 more on tap for next week.
This last month of full-fledge effort has been very rewarding. As a lot of activism time is spent just trying to make people aware of issues, inspiring them to fight, and trying to build a constituency; having been able to get something direct and tangible done is just on time to keep the motor running.
I’ll be turning in about 80 voter registration cards on to the election commission on Monday; most of former felons working to become fully apart of society again.
You can and should do this work too if you are concerned about the elections and the issues of the Black agenda.
Folks, we have a week until voter registration deadlines start coming up in some states on October 6th, and just over two weeks be for the rest will have closed by October 15th.
Black bloggers are being asked to make a special effort not only to ask their readers to get registered, but to encourage those who are already registered and others in their circles to actively participate in registering others. You can read about the National Registration Push in detail here.

I cant wait for Thursday to come so Joe can send her back to Alaska butt in hand.
Oh my! Love the new look! Much obliged for your efforts in getting folk registered. We need everybody. I’m doing my part here on my side of the plantation, too.
It’s picking up somewhat in southern PA, a few of my friends did some time there last week. I only wish I had more time to participate out of state. i have done in state voter registration, but I live in Maryland and it’s unlikely McCain could win here anyway. We also had a good group heading into Virginia and West Virginia this past weekend.
It is the key.
I’m glad you enjoy the new layout Sjp.
Thanks for helping out on voter registration.
Cooper, good to hear about people going across the border into swing states to help register. I wrote about that being something people should do who are in border states, in another post.
Virginia is the clostest state. Obama really needs to steal that one.
