Discussing the Diaspora as seen through an internal Black lens
June 17th, 2008
A&E has been contacted, and sponsors have been contacted by the Afrospeher Action Coalition; but Wednesday will be their day to hear from YOU!
Day of Blogging for Respect In Media
Anyone who can communicate even via email is highly capable of spreading the word. We can demand respect in the media and in the public square - Yes We Can!
Dog made no sincere apology; and has done nothing to make recompense, or to change his core racial animus. Therefore we should not pay A&E or their advertisers to support someone like this with our dollars. We can create a culture of respect and public dignity of all people groups.
Despite that Dog never owned up to what he actually said, but instead went on t.v. and lied about it inspite us having the tape (as detailed here), and hence has made no real amends for what he won’t even acknowledge he did: that he and his crew of convicted criminals regularly used the word “nigger” with derogatory intent. He has not admitted that when his son began to date a Black woman, Dog verbally savaged her simply for being Black and for no other reason.
This is not a one shot action. It will be a sustained action that continues what Bloggers previously accomplished in successfully challenging BET on it’s Hot Ghetto Mess; and we will be active in challenging media and corporate America on its respect of all citizens going forward.
Will You Join? Comment and let us know.
The Day of Blogging for Respect In Media to incite our readers to support the position of the letter that’s been sent, and to ask our readers to take action to contact the A&E Network and it’s advertisers.
You need not be a blogger to participate, you can also do this through email to your contact list/address box.

What an asshole.
I’ve never heard of the Day of Respect for Blogging and all that. Care to explain?
Do you have a specific question, the post discuss what the day of Blogging for Respect in Media is all about.
Maybe this post will help since it has a little more detail.
Those who have blogs would blog the message and contact info for A&E and selected advertisers; those that don’t would do so through email.
Ahh, sorry, I get it, thanks
I was confused about what the Day specifcally was, but I get it now. Will definitely help out, good luck!
I think I see what you mean now.
The Days of Blogging that we do are design to have a bunch of bloggers raise their voice at the same time (and if I’m conducting it) with the intent of getting their readers to take some specific action. So it’s a way of inciting mass action at a specific time.
My post is up! Let’s get this a$$hole! SjP
Thanks for participating SJP; I’m adding you to the list.
It’s 10:00am EST. I should have a post up by 1pm.
By the way, I also left a response at the AfroSpear (Google Group) so you can send me any additional materials to blog with (as you mentioned at the GG).
Thanks!
You should have gotten those yesterday Hawa - I sent two emails, one in the afternoon and one late last night.
If you don’t see them, send me an email, or post a comment with your email at the Afrospear.
I contacted A&E a few months ago & told them that while I liked their station a lot, I would not watch it anymore if they put that show back on. I never watched the that show. They instantly sent me an automated response to let me know they received my e-mail. Two weeks ago this is the ludicrous response I got:
(what a bunch of b.s.)
Dear Viewer:
Thank you for your email. We take your concerns very seriously. Over the last few months, Duane “Dog” Chapman has taken and continues to take the appropriate steps in reaching out to several African American organizations in an effort to educate himself and make amends for his comments. The decision to bring Dog the Bounty Hunter back on the air was one made after much consideration and conversations with many community leaders. Since the premise of Dog the Bounty Hunter is about second chances - we have decided to give him one. We truly feel that the time is right for Dog and his team to return to the air. Thank you
Best,
A&E Viewer Relations
Needless to say I’m not watching A&E any longer and will happily boycott any sponsors.
